Helio G99 already offers a poor gaming experience today, no need to stretch out that far. And sure you can get the OS to run probably. Just like on aforementioned Moto E, experience is gonna blow. No way to sugar coat it.

Let me rephrase a bit: if Android 18 will run on the low end hardware of 2027, it won't run on high or mid range hardware from 2024? And then there's Android Go.

The difference being the Helio is a 2022 chip with a 2017 level of performance at best. Really, it's the same chip found on the Tab A9 EE, that's a $150 tablet with the Samsung tax added onto that.

That SoC is far too anemic. I'd argue that there's a very large difference between runs and usable, hence why I brought up the iPhone 4s.

Oh, I wasn't talking this particular chip (I know MediaTek does a piss-poor job of providing driver updates anyway*, no matter the SoC tier). I was just saying, expecting 4 year of OS upgrades is not unrealistic.

* The only Mediatek SoC (that I know of) in my household is in my router. And because of that, I didn't get the promised MU-MIMO capability :(
