AMD announced FSR 3.1 in March 2024, and its first implementations are being announced. FSR 3.1 is a step up from FSR 3.0, in that it not just has frame generation, but also improvements to its upscaler up from FSR 2.2. If you recall, FSR 3.0 had only introduced frame generation, but its upscaler was carried over from FSR 2.2. The newer FSR 3.1 introduces image quality improvements to every performance preset of the upscaler, and introduces new presets, including the Native AA mode that's analogous to NVIDIA's DLAA. The game is rendered at native resolution, but the upscaler attempts to enhance details, making it an advanced AA mode. AMD today announced that FSR 3.1 is implemented with "Horizon: Forbidden West," "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart," "Ghost of Tsushima," "Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered," "Spider-Man: Miles Morales," and "God of War: Ragnarök."

AMD also recounts that FSR 3.0 now spans over 60 available and upcoming games (which includes the above titles with FSR 3.1). The company is announcing implementation for "Dragon's Dogma 2," "EVERSPACE 2," "Gray Zone Warfare," "House Flipper 2," "NARAKA: BLADEPOINT," "Pax Dei," "Senua's Saga: Hellblade II," "Ships At Sea," "Still Wakes the Deep," and" The Thaumaturge." Recently added upcoming titles include "Concord," "Creatures of Ava, Dungeon Stalkers," "Farming Simulator 25," "inZOI," "Nobody Wants to Die, Preserve," and "The First Descendant."

Based on how lackluster Hyper-RX was, frame gen in any game is basically unusable, and so on and so forth, I love AMD for price to raster performance, because raster is all I have ever really cared about, - but don't hate me for being skeptical on this. even Frame Gen FSR3 in Starfield really was not all that great, compared to nvidia's option of frame gen.

so yeah I am just a bit skeptical until proven otherwise. i don't own any of those six games yet, so can't test.

I think the biggest benefit is Nvidia 3000/2000 owners no longer have to use FSR to use the frame gen portion.... Now if they could just fix the frametime issues hopefully that will be next.

6 games announced and 5 are already out, played them all already too, hard to get excited when I have no intentions of revisiting them soon. Keen to test and see with my own eyes though, and see the usual group of IQ reviews.

I must say my single experience with AFMF was pretty positive. Generally I don't need it with the RX 7900 XTX, but 3440x1440 ultra with full RT on Control got a bit taxing. AFMF made it smooth as heck.
If AMD can implement a FSRAA toggle in Adrenalin to make it work in whatever game, I'd be pretty willing to try it. I still won't use any upscaler, though.

People who know me know that I'm not keen on upscaling, be it DLSS, FSR or XeSS. Sure, it's great with lower-end or older hardware when you need a bit of extra oomph, but that's it. I doesn't rock my world. Sorry.

I only saw FSR in one game (Robocop), the frame generation was surprisingly effective in it, but the upscaling was completely abysmal.

I tested FSR 3.1 in spiderman remastered and there is alot of texture shimmering if you go to the park and view the trees from a building. So there is still work to be done.

So is the upscaler improvement something devs need to add, or can it be done by users by dropping in an updated dll like TPU posts for dlss? Makes sense there would need to be game UI updates to expose the native-aa mode but maybe not for the quality improvements.

For 2.2 > 3.1 and 3.0 > 3.1 i believe developer support is still required, but future versions like maybe 3.5 etc could be drop in upgrades once the game already has 3.1 as base.

Hyper-RX was not a single feature. It is a "toggle" to enable multiple features at once, instead of toggling them one by one.

Really? Why is that?

the AMD feature that allows any game to have frame gen, I tried it in a few games, and it smooshes all the pixels wrong in the games I tried it in, it looks weird and doesn't feel smooth at all. I'm sticking with traditional raster only for now. I plan to get a rtx 6090 upgrade in maybe 2-4 years or whenever that one comes out. nvidia's AI features should be pretty mindblowing around then.

You're talking about AFMF (AMD Fluid Motion Frames), not Hyper-RX. Like i said Hyper-RX is the master switch that enables (among others) AFMF.

You could try the 3rd party Lossless Scaling program instead for frame generation. It even offers 3x compared to 2x that Nvidia and AMD currently offer. It's not free but i've heard it's quite good. It costs 5,51€ (at least in Europe) on Steam and seems to offer frame gen even for videos, not just games.

Hey AMD, how about fixing the issue with your driver that forces Freesync to always be enabled?
If you want good power consumption while idle on RDNA 3 you will want Freesync on.

And why would you not want that on?

It prevents me from being able to enable low latency mode on my monitor, which causes ghosting at higher contrast levels. Ironically, freesync causes worse tearing in some scenarios when the framerate isn't stable. I have a suspicion it was causing some games to stutter, or rather the output to stutter, not the game itself.

This will be activated on the drivers or game update?
My horizon says fsr 2.2 only (game version 1.4.59.0)

You wouldn't want it on if the priority is visual fidelity.
Personally, I don't enable DLSS/FSR unless I absolutely have to.

Wouldn't having Freesnyc off affect visual fidelity?

I also play in native and don't use upscaling at all.

Whoops, I read that as FSR (not Freesync)
Thought you were talking about how enabling that would impact power consumption (which it does, but not the point you were making).

Looking better than DLSS...
Is this sarcasm ? :) There are other interweb videos which show not much of an improvement over fsr 2/3, with video sample proof.
I think this guy is too overly enthusiastic.

same and lots of smearing and flickering in motion:

I don't see a huge difference from your selected videos, it's coming down to complaining about a couple of brown rice grains in your white rice bowl now.

But also, I think it's flawed to use an Nvidia GPU for FSR. Nvidia does not optimize their drivers for FSR and even though it's hardware-agnostic, AMD does not optimize it either for Geforce cards. Reading around the web, actual Radeon users are reporting major improvements with 3.1.
