Why would they launch a meteor lake laptop now? Seems like a missed opportunity 2-3 months ahead of Lunar Lake.

Due to having a lot of stock of old chips and it being heavily discounted?

Sounds like quick e-waste to me...
As usual, the CPU does not stop working just because something newer is released.
But it does feel a bit awkward to tout a design around the previous gen, especially since Lunar Lake is aimed squarely at this kind of ultra-portables.

Also, a special rofl at the $1,400 MSRP.

But 2.18 lbs is only 989 grams, not 2024?

;-)
My initial thought was that this was a record weight for a laptop with a 20" or something, then I thought it was a typo and it was a 1024 gram laptop, but then why not skim off 25g and have it under 1kg, now I am just confused.

Yeah, either this is a really silly name for the actual product of the writer missed the "number - gram" is read by people used to using grams as the number being of weight (which it is not), or the writer missed this point and just went with the year of release and this odd name, which would also be fair if not used to grams.

LG "gram" line of laptops exist since 2014, since they offered the below 1 kg laptop model, lightest one on the market back then (so "gram" actually references the weight written in grams instead of kilos for the first time).

Writing the model name with lower case + year name is a constant source of jokes on the metric side of the world. :p

Can't imagine such a thin/light laptop handling the power and heat requirements of Intel CPUs, even on Intel 4 lithography. Their new architecture supposedly coming end of year will be a big improvement.

Then you don't understand modern CPUs. There is no requirement besides the base TDP. Anything above that will be used if thermals allow it. It's that simple.

$799 isn't bad for something that will end up in the trash in 2 years.
