ASUS announced a press event on July 17 to launch at least nine notebook designs powered by AMD Ryzen AI 300 series "Strix Point" mobile processors. All these notebooks are AI PCs that meet Microsoft Copilot+ requirements. Each of the 9 designs will have several variants based on the processor model, discrete graphics, and other hardware differentiators, making up dozens of individual SKUs. The AMD "Strix Point" mobile processor is based on a 4 nm monolithic die. It combines a 12-core/24-thread CPU based on a combination of "Zen 5" and "Zen 5c" cores, a 50 TOPS-class NPU, and a powerful iGPU based on the RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture, with 16 compute units.

Among the notebook designs ASUS plans to announce on July 17 are the ROG Zephyrus G16 (GA605), the TUF Gaming A14 (FA401), the TUF Gaming A16 (FA608), the Zenbook S16 (UM5606), Vivobook S14 (M5406), Vivobook S16 (M5506 and M5606), ProArt P16 (HN7606) and ProArt PX13 (HN7306). With these, ASUS is covering pretty much all its notebook market segments, including enthusiast gaming, performance gaming, boutique ultraportability, mainstream, and creative professional.

What is the point of a DGPU if this processor is designed for the APU to shine in Gaming? Call me when they have a 1080P 240Hz laptop with that APU alone inside.

That's been my biggest complaint for the past few years....I want a mid to high-end laptop with the top SKU APUs (so they have the most powerful iGPU) and I want it WITHOUT a dGPU....take the dGPU out and give me a bigger battery or something....I can't be the only one who wants this, can I?

Does anyone really care about AI-specific hardware for laptops besides them?

Why don't they use all that mighty INTELLIGENCE to do a good keyboard, hinge and proper cooler solutions?

I do not think you guys are the only ones. I feel the same way but I guess dGPU is like raising a car suspension by 3 inches and calling it a SUV. Instant markup, in search of incredible profit.

You're overestimating these new APUs. Even though its 16 CUs, its still not enough for 1080p 240Hz, unless you're playing older or not-so-graphically intensive games.

I say this as one who owns various 8700G/8840U/7840U/Z1E devices with the 12 CU iGPU.

I do not expect the 890M to ever match or exceed the RTX 4050M, even the lowest 50W+15W TGP variant. But it should be able to beat the RTX 2050M and just stay behind the RTX 3050M a little bit.

My links above shows the model with a 120 Hz 3200 x 2000 OLED display, that's as good as it gets for this kind of graphics in laptops.

Of course. But take note that the Vivobook and Zenbook line up is not meant for gaming primarily. The 120Hz on those OLED screens is really for everyday UX purposes. The smoother the better, as they say. :toast:

Here's hoping they do have a TDP of at least 54W (plugged in, of course lol) though so the HX 370/890M can show itself off.

I don't think anyone expects that. Also, I'd prefer a lower resolution on a laptop with this GPU.

Are there any gaming laptops without a separate GPU? I don't know if I've ever seen one. Kind of an oxymoron for most people I guess..

There are plenty of older Games and racing Games that should output over 200 FPS native at 1080P. This chip should blow away the handheld chips and they are plenty fine. We also have Freesync to mitigate tearing and stuttering.

I'd guess we won't see IGP gaming laptops until Strix halo tho.
