Alienware's Area-51 ALX CF First to Use 45nm Processors

Just a few hours after Intel released the new 45nm Penryn processors, Alienware blasted out a press release announcing the Area-51 ALX CF, the first machine to use the new chips. The QX9650-equipped machines can be ordered overclocked up to 4.0GHz, and Alienware also bumped the graphics to dual CrossFire ATI Radeon HD 3870 cards. All that power won't come cheap, though - the CF line starts at $5499. The full tech specs of Area-51 ALX CF can be seen here.

I think there was a time I actually respected what Alienware was providing for the not so technically inclined consumer market, but now they seem a bit tacky and bloated.

AlienWare customer support isn't good nowadays...I've sent my m9750 for RMA not even an e-mail to notify me that it has arrived at their premises. I had to track it down everyday via DHL tracking. I phoned them and they said I will get an e-mail before they send it back..which takes 15 days. I'm really really disappointed.

Adding to that I ordered a 4965AGN wireless card of which the antennae cables were connected wrongly where I had support in like...5 days where they stated I had to open the notebook and check the cables. So I did. But then I still had a problem with the notebook rebooting on shut down, not resuming when set to sleep and not hibernating. Closing of the lid resulted of the notebook shutting down not to power on again unless the button was pressed for 8 seconds.

Thanks AlienWare you were supposed to CHECK my notebook before packing it. ADDED TO THAT when I first switched my notebook on and was all "wow this is so nice" a screen came up...the screen where you choose if you want to go into safe mode. WHICH MEANS the notebook wasn't turning off properly at the factory....nice advert this is eh? =]

Those aluminium cases are optional for notebooks. I got the cheapest case which is the backpack. Not because it's the cheapest, but because it's the safest for travel. No complaints about that it's perfect.

Agreed, It seems like about the time they changed from their full towers to this funky style everything was going down hill. Back in the late 90's-early 2000's I liked them.
I kinda think they all did it, Falcon and everyone kindof took off on the "games don't play without our gaming machines" idea.

Not really true, I already saw some SuperMicro servers using them on. And I doubt they're the only ones. These systems are made before the official launch, so I bet most major OEM's have systems ready.
