G.Skill, the world's leading brand of performance overclock memory and PC components, is releasing an overclock memory specification with ultra-low latency at DDR5-6400 CL30-39-39-102 in 32 GB (2x 16 GB) kit capacity. This high performance specification will be available under the Trident Z5 RGB and Trident Z5 Royal series with Intel XMP 3.0 overclock profile support, as well as under the Trident Z5 Neo RGB and Trident Z5 Royal Neo series with AMD EXPO overclock profile support.

The G.Skill R&D team strives to push the limits of memory performance, and low latency is a key factor in memory overclocking for enthusiasts and overclockers. Compared to the standard DDR5-4800 CL40, this new DDR5-6400 CL30 specification makes improvements upon the memory speed and latency. And since this is a high-performance specification, it's important to check the compatibility of the motherboard and CPU.

Overclock Profile Support & Availability
This new specification comes with Intel XMP 3.0 under the Trident Z5 RGB and Trident Z5 Royal series, and AMD EXPO (Extended Profile for Overclocking) under the Trident Z5 Neo RGB and Trident Z5 Royal Neo series for easy memory overclocking via the motherboard BIOS. These memory kits will be available through G.Skill worldwide distribution partners starting late August 2024.

They will go for a high premium since it's about the highest you can go on Zen 5 without messing with the infinity fabric ratio. DDR5 6400 CL30 will likely be the best possible performance come 9800X3D time. If only they came with a small heat spreader and no absurd LEDs.

6400 C30 is about sweet spot for Intel Z690 and uppermost segment for AMD, this memory isn't exactly meh, it's pretty good

Suppose you'll have to get a good motherboard and be lucky with the MC on Ryzen 9000 to fully get these working.. I've heard about stablity problems in general since the launch so I hope once the dust settles and perhaps when X3D comes out most CPU's could use these dimms.

If I were to build a new system using DDR5 I would probably opt for generic Flare X5 look:
Slightly worse timings but low profile and don't stand out much.

Or drop down to 6000 for higher capacity:

Anyone know what that extra slot is for on the motherboard shown? It looks like the board has 5 DIMM slots.

And your purpose for using an excessive amount of RAM?

I used a few GiB with the Ryzen 7600X Igpu for a while. e.g. 8 or 16Gib is a nice value

Some computing is faster in RAM.
Many lint files should never be written to the disk in the first place. Without using RAM they would be put in the regular backup. Which increases backup size and backup speed.

Yes, but only if the price premium compared to 6400 cl32 (like mine) is relatively small. These new modules still need 1,4v.

Out of topic but I could use your advice. Like you, I’m planning to update the bios. All these years it was done on windows using the downloaded file, but Asus also offers some ez utility for bios update. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I literally copied the timings from the mushkin 6400 cl30 kit and applied them to my trident 6000 cl30 2x32gb no problems.

@docnorth Well vfat usb stick and unpacked bios file on it. Factory reset the uefi. I just open the ez updater in the uefi from my asus prime x670-p and than load the file form the usb stick. The process should be well documented in the handbook or somewhere else I think.

AMD's memory controller as well as their cache sizes are a total joke. That's my takeaway on this. Now we all get to pay premium prices for garbage memory with added bling to make it look shiny.

My new jam is 6000 CL28 @ 1.35V so I don't have to leave a fan on it.

Yeah, but these are just Hynix A Die with added price and diamonds and pearls for those that are that way inclined.
1723807654751.png

Is it generally accepted that all A die modules will do 6200-6400MTS with CL28? You just need the timings?

Good bin.

Running JEDEC M-die 10 layer PCB. 6400 cl32 @ 1.35v atm. I think I tried cl30 once, but it would crash with 1.4v.. Possible it might be better under latest bios.. not sure.
