We've known for the past couple of weeks that AMD is working on the Ryzen 5 7600X3D—a 6-core/12-thread processor based on the older "Zen 4" microarchitecture, but featuring 3D V-cache that enables significant gaming performance uplifts. The company finally launched the chip, but here's the bummer—it's only available in the US, and is a MicroCenter exclusive, where's it's going for $299.99. Here's the second bummer—you can't buy the processor on its own, but in a 3-part bundle that includes it, an ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus Wi-Fi motherboard, and an unspecified brand of 32 GB (2x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 memory kit. When you add up the prices of the three parts when purchased separately, you arrive at $630, but MicroCenter is selling the bundle for an impressive $450—a $180 discount.

The AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D comes with a maximum boost frequency of 4.70 GHz, which is a steep 600 MHz fall from that of the regular Ryzen 5 7600X, and 400 MHz less than that of the 65 W Ryzen 5 7600 (non-X). Much like the 7600, the 7600X3D comes with a 65 W TDP. Where it loses on clock speeds, it makes up for with its large cache—1 MB of L2 cache per core, and 96 MB of L3 cache (or 102 MB of L2+L3 "total cache."). The bundle could offer good value for those building PCs from scratch, or coming in from the older Socket AM4 platform. The TUF Gaming B650-Plus Wi-Fi is a fairly feature-packed mid-range ATX motherboard.

Very AMD thing to do as of late. Take what could be a win and shite all over it.

I'm by a microcenter but man these retailer exclusives are crap. This only being a good option for new builders also crap.

Come on, AMD... The 7800X3D has sometimes been on sale for $300. And to make this a MicroCenter exclusive bars it from distribution for the rest of the world.

"AMD Fumbles Easy Victory" should be the headline of choice for this style of post going forward.

Ah yiss, I love region-specific shop-specific SKUs, this makes so much sense in a global economy, absolute 9000 IQ galaxy brained move by AMD. Who needs a strong entry in the 200-300 buck range? Pfft. And then its fans are wondering why they regularly fumble clear opportunities and snatch defeat from jaws of victory.

It'll sell out anyway so for them it doesn't matter.

I fumed about it inside the AMD community, but yeah again “exclusive” BS³. They could at least sell it online in the own web shop with a sticker on it for limited quantity.........but no.

Nevermind, I shouldn't be salty, it is just AMD PR works XD.

Have a nice weekend everyone and I gonna enjoy some tasty German beer rn.

I guess these aren't getting reviewed then. Are any TPU staff near a Microcenter? Would you want someone from the community to get one for you?

What a wasted opportunity, they really could have spoiled Intel's new CPU launch with a widely available and affordable AM5 X3D part.

I can understand in a way why they do it in just one market, the yields of the 7800x3D must be excellent and not many runts so to speak. But this does seem like a defeat from the jaws of victory, spread it around, even if it's a few here and there.

The possibility of yields being low would make sense for the 7600X3D being an exclusive, though still disappointing its Microcenter only. Most people that don't live near a Microcenter are excluded from a cheap X3D cpu.

What is it with AMD and these Micro Center "exclusives"? They pulled the same crap with the 5600X3D. Someone should tell the people at AMD that not everyone lives in the US.

300 usd is too expensive, $199 maximum and no more.

Technically it's pretty cheap becuase it's only sold in a bundle for 180 USD off retail.

It's a fake MSRP that you can't even buy it for if you wanted to just to make the bundle look like a better value than it really is.

This tactic screws over anyone who just wants to buy the cpu, and will likely keep the second hand market pricing high as well.

What is it with AMD and these Micro Center "specials"? They pulled the same crap with the 5600X3D. Someone should tell the people at AMD that not everyone lives in the US.

Likely a very limited diy supply with the majority going to oem.

I really don't understand the logic behind this. Is Microcenter paying AMD a premium to be the only store allowed to sell 7600X3D? If so, why? And even if so, how much money is AMD losing because they aren't selling this chip to the rest of the world?

AMD sales and marketing team strikes again, I guess.

The bundle doesn't make much sense at all though, I looked on the MC site and they have a 7800X3D bundle for $50 more.
It's a nonexistant product for most people that don't live within driving distance of a microcenter.

IMO the 7600X3D shouldn't have gotten a press release if it was just going to be more exclusive nonsense, no point in hyping up something that most people can't even buy.

Just why? They did this already with the 5600X3D, but at least they made the 7900 GRE available worldwide after being a China exclusive at first.

They likely did that becuase it wasn't selling lol. Don't forget they also lowered the price quite a bit as well.

The 7800X3D for $200 at MC was a better bundle. This bundle needs a lower price if they're serious imo.

Yeah this could have been an easy win, AMD ruined that chance again. I think the 7600X3D would've been better at $230-250, if the production is low due to yields then maybe AMD could've had retailers pair it with RAM or a motherboard so people would be less likely to buy them to resell them.

Just like any other AMD CPU the launch price will have early adopter tax.

Users will cope in this thread about AMD shitting the bed, and these processors will sell out at microcenter in due time regardless.

BestBuy does this too. I still have an Asus Router that was a BestBuy exclusive like 15yrs ago and a Laptop that came with a blu-ray player and 1 USB3 port - it was a real deal at the time.

At $450 is a very solid price for that combo, will have a upper tier gaming performance for years with that setup. Personally not sure how I'd feel about going 6c12t, even though Ryzen does extremely well with that core count. Knowing I always have steam, discord, chrome, etc. running in the background too will have to see the TPU review 1% lows page. Imo the 8c16t remains the best all arounder for X3D.
