Publisher Dotemu (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, Streets of Rage 4) and developer Leikir Studio (Rogue Lords, Synergy) today announced Metal Slug Tactics (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1590760/Metal_Slug_Tactics/), the grid-based tactical adaptation of the iconic run-and-gun METAL SLUG series, will launch Nov. 5 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

The release date trailer debuts three additional playable characters in hard-hitting gameplay, each bringing a unique set of abilities into battle:
  • Clark Still: Originally hailing from the Ikari Warriors series and previously playable in Metal Slug 6, Clark's immense strength and wrestling experience allows this tanklike ally to relocate enemies on the map and dish out wide-reaching, status-inflicting damage.
  • Ralf Jones: Also returning for battle from the Ikari Warriors series and Metal Slug 6, Ralf is a master of short-range combat, packing devastating punches and the ability to charge at enemies head-on like a raging bull.
  • Leona Heidern: A newer addition to the Ikari Warriors, Leona is a revered fighter capable of replacing fallen enemies with decoy allies; she can distract and overwhelm enemy forces in her distinct approach to dominating the combat zone.

Plans for a physical release for Metal Slug Tactics were also confirmed today; tacticians can expect to receive full intel on where to secure their copy at a later date. Metal Slug Tactics' original soundtrack, composed in full by Tee Lopes (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, Sonic Mania, Streets of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare DLC), was also confirmed as of today for launch availability, both digitally through Steam and as a physical vinyl release through Kid Katana Records.

Metal Slug Tactics is both a respectful homage to an all-time classic and an imaginative new way to celebrate the renowned series, channeling METAL SLUG's timeless aesthetic through gorgeous pixel art and fluid animation. The game's highly replayable battlefields pair shuffled layouts from hand-crafted sectors of terrain with subtle roguelite elements, pushing players to adapt and overcome unpredictable clashes as they master dynamic, strategic combat.

Wield classic METAL SLUG weaponry, leveraging skill trees, perks, and a super attack-fueling adrenaline system to outwit and demolish the flanks of the series' signature villains. Metal Slug Tactics is wholly developed by Leikir Studio with support from Dotemu and access supplied by IP owner SNK.

Very cool idea for a Tactics type game. Looks good and you can see their TMNT aesthetic. Makes me miss Final Fantasy Tactics hopefully someday that'll get a remaster.

I remember fans asking for this for decades. It's kind of wild that it's only coming out now, well past the original heyday of Advance Wars-style tactics games. That said, I'm glad it's coming out at all, as I love said tactics-type games and also supported similar ones such as Wargroove and Tiny Metal.

Ikari Warriors Used to love the original, shame this don't have more detail for today, but i guess lower systems need to be able to run it too.

SNK fans are going to love that they stuck with the OG asthetic. Good Graphics = Bad Gameplay almost always. Keep it retro.

There are a lot of them on the Switch and many of them feature amazing retro graphics.

I played the demo, the sprite work does the series justice but the gameplay is pretty crap. But then, I expected it to be more like an SRPG.

I would prefer a modernized take of standard Run 'n Gun style Metal Slug but this still seems pretty cool.

There's a modern Contra out right now.
yea Operation Galuga
Got it on my wishlist but need to wait for some free time to buy and play.
Especially considering when I do buy that, I am also going to buy "Iron Meat" which looks like another great Run 'n Gun game. I'll be busy going "pew pew" when that happens lol

I just wish Metal Slug had same thing going for them. That being, "modernized" as in 16:9 aspect ratio and runs and works well on Windows 10+ and actually uses xinput or equivalent modern controller API (gameinput for ex). I say this because I have Metal Slug XX on Steam and it lacks all of this stuff. If I recall right, letter boxed aspect ratio and only uses keyboard so I need to remap a controller to play as such. I get it's basically a port of 7 but even that game came out in 2009. So it has been 15 years now since Metal Slug got a real Run 'n Gun sequel.

Played double-digit hours of the demo during NextFest. Played wonderfully, bug free, some work to do on scaleability of difficulty.

Day 1 for me.

I loved all the Metal Slug games I've played.
Always gave me lot of laughs with it's jokes.
