As we enter the last week of October and the first few days of November, we have a crammed week of new games, as well as a bunch of old releases that have either been refreshed or released on PC for the first time. This week's AAA title is a single player RPG that appears to have something to do with an age of dragons. This is followed by a mystery on the moon, a strange life, cowboys, some martial arts, a trip through hell, mechanical animals and finally a sequel to Elona.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard / This week's first AAA release / Thursday 31 October
When a pair of corrupt ancient gods break free from centuries of darkness, the vibrant land of Thedas needs someone they can count on. Rise as Rook, Dragon Age's newest hero. Be who you want to be and play how you want to play as you fight back and lead your team of seven companions, each with their own rich story. Together you will become The Veilguard. Steam link

Moon Mystery / Monday 28 October
The Moon's haunted - and when an astronaut loses contact with Earth, the adventure begins in full. Fill up your oxygen, load up the guns, and set out on an interstellar FPS adventure across the stars, filled with puzzles, fights, exploration, and strange secrets of the universe. Steam link

Life is Strange: Double Exposure / Tuesday 29 October
When Max Caulfield finds her friend Safi dead in the snow, she tears open the way to a parallel timeline. Here, Safi is still alive - and still in danger! With her new power to Shift between two timelines - can Max solve and prevent the same murder? Steam link

Red Dead Redemption / Tuesday 29 October
Experience the story of former outlaw John Marston as he tracks down the last remaining members of the notorious Van der Linde Gang in the PC debut of the critically acclaimed predecessor to Red Dead Redemption 2. Steam link

Karate Survivor / Wednesday 30 October
Become a martial arts master in this survivor-like roguelite inspired by action movies of the '80s. Use your fists, feet, and the environment to fight off relentless thugs. Master powerful combos, enhance your skills, and remember: everything around you is a weapon! Steam link

Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered / This week's first remake / Thursday 31 October
Join the crass Garcia Hotspur and his boney buddy, Johnson, as they traverse the depths of the Underworld to steal back Garcia's kidnapped lover, Paula, from the clutches of Fleming, the Lord of the Underworld. Let the soul of rock 'n' roll run loose in the heart of the twisted hellscape that is the Underworld. Steam link

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered / This week's second remake / Thursday 31 October
Experience the critically acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn with stunning new visuals and upgraded features. In a far future where colossal machines roam the Earth, pockets of humanity survive in unique tribes among the lush, overgrown ruins of our long-lost civilization. Steam link

Elin / Friday 1 November / Early Access
A sequel to the legendary Japanese free game "Elona," which has inspired countless tales and adventurers who never returned. While retaining the traditional roguelike gameplay, Elin introduces crafting, survival elements, and base building/management, creating an even more open and chaotic experience. Steam link

I was looking at images for the Moon game, but read the Life is Strange title. I was like wow, that game really has changed up it's scenery from previous Life is Strange games,

Then I finally realized my mistake of course.

Well It is on Steam so this might be the first time I buy a Dragon Age title at launch. Or maybe not, I did enjoy the last one though.

Those Veilguard screenshots unironically look like RAID or any other mobile game. What the hell is that art-style? Or that UI design? I know that BioWare is a shambling corpse these days, but seriously?
Oh, and they still haven’t beaten the amazingly cringy “This is the New Shit” trailer in terms of marketing. That one was so bad it went around to being good. Peak 00s edginess.

I think they are just bad screenshots, I have seen plenty of gameplay video that says this game will be fun, at least for me. I plan to get it, probably not until late next year though as my backlog is too much at the moment.

I hear you but before you jump at Bioware notice the Elephant. There are 2 remasters in this week's notification. There is no new content there.

Also, why the hell are we “remastering” Horizon? It’s far from a bad looking game and I have stuff in my fridge older than it is. Jesus, the industry just keeps on churning the same things over and over in an endless cycle now, isn’t it?

Yuuuuup.
I know it is insane. Once you have a huge library (and a PC you enjoy) Gaming is much more refined than buying the new thing every week though. Don't get me wrong I would love something like Max Payne2 or what would really be cool is if someone remastered Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast and ported it to PC.

Dreamcast has a library of bangers that are just… sitting there. Nobody seems to care. Hey, can we get Skies of Arcadia on modern platforms? Or, like, the original SoulCalibur not available anywhere except the janky XBox back-compat version? Maybe some DoA? No? We’d rather improve a 2017 PS4 title with slightly shinier graphics? Okay then.

It's low-hanging fruit. HZD was released for the PS4 and the PS5 has double the RAM and a lot more CPU and GPU power so they can repack the game with higher resolution textures and sell it like a new product. Most likely they'll include some new content so they can justify the $10/€10 they'll charge current owners for the upgrade.

In any case this is what GameRant says it has:

I played the original on Steam for 90+ hours and I don't think the remaster adds anything of value to me.

Soul Caliber and DoA like most fighters keep churning out the next version though. The only glowups have really been the OG Street Fighter 2 Super Turbo. The problem is nobody plays the ones that got an HD glowup everyone still plays the OG version. It's very well known that the fighting game community does not play remakes. They always end up avoided like the plague. The rare cases releasing them on a newer platform has worked it's always been taking the ROM of the original game and simply adding in online along with the fighting game communities (well the Street Fighter community did it) roll back netcode to make them worth playing online.

I get work was needed to get the game into this new status but they shot past the ideal cost at $50 for basically a 15 yr old game

I can't really put Moon Mystery anywhere. Is it a shooter? A puzzle game? Or a mystery-exploration game? I don't know. But it looks interesting enough to get my vote.

That, and for the studio to make more money in general, without taking the effort of creating and releasing a new game. Laziness and greed.

It's also why I mentioned specifically in the intro that there are several older games being released or remade.

Given the amount of people on this very forum who brag about emulating consoles and do not actually purchase the game (ie theft which PC gaming is famous for) I don't think it matters if it wasn't released on the PC.

I picked up Iron Meat on Steam and the Zelda Echos of Wisdom on Switch and those are doing me well now!
