I hold extremely strong opinions on this game - in fact, the only positive about it that I have seen so far and I give it credit for is that it seems to have exposed industry-wide corruption at a very large scale, so I'm not going there.

I guess it makes me a little sad because despite it all I still hold a shred of hope that it's salvageable, I've never played the Dragon Age series (kept getting thrown in my backlog), but I have been recommended both Origins and Inquisition in more than one occasion and in fact, I have acquired my own copies of both games through EA's Origin service and the EGS over time. Everyone who recommended me these games had nothing but praise for them, and it seems that this title took that trust and simply shattered it.

Play DAO and forget about the other 3 games. I guarantee you will have a great time. You will also have played the last great BioWare game before the developer began the march downhill to shit.

Yea, Origins is worth a play even in this day and age. The rest while some are good (Like II and Inquisition), none hit as well as the original did.

I think its funny how BioWare keeps making major flubs and still existing (Not calling for them to disappear, just get better). I mean better studios have been scrapped for less.

I pray that one day some studio will commit something like Dragon Age: Origins but with Larian's BG3 quality.. I could even pay twice AAA price for it. It's damn sad they don't make such games anymore :shadedshu:

We're probably at the start of a golden age of gaming where great games can be made once again, without the ideological baggage of a big studio thanks to AI/ML tools. Google recently announced that more than 25% of their new code is written by AI. A team of three, a writer, a graphics artist and a programmer, all using AI tools can today make a game similar to DA:O I bet within 1 year of steady daily progress.

bit creepy to let yourself be led like that, but you do you I guess...or in this case the curator does you....

for the rest, DF showed they made a terrific effort on a technical front on the pc, so that is praise worthy on its own.

perhaps look at DF's vid, I think it looks fine, hair rendering is downright impressive
Well my curator is just a filter for the games, but whatever works for your creepiness i guess.

First one is one the best games ever in my book 2 was a huge step down and inquisition isn't anywhere close. I own all 3 and have played through all 3.

When you get around to playing origins and you should make sure you use some visual mods to improve the graphics it helps a lot.

Something like this
Will that mod make the dialogue text readable at high resolutions? That tiny text at 1080p and higher is really all that is keeping me from replaying that one.

I can't remember what I did for that it's been so long but I think there is a ui mod.

Maybe this one but it's been a while

It's no surprise that EA complained that Larian set a bar too high for a great game in BG3; Veilguard is outright juvenile in comparison. In BG3, one could either be as merciful as possible, or be an absolute a-hole who forces his companions to do things they don't want to do. Meanwhile, Veilguard, like Outlaws, refuse to let players go down the a-hole or "evil" path. Heck, they got rid of the option to use Bloodmagic, which was an option in past Dragon Age games. They also threw out about half the lore and mythos that didn't sit well with the current devs.

I just wanted a sequel to Inquisition or Origins, with BG3 levels of quality and options.

Honestly Inquisition isn't that bad, enjoyed hundred of hours playing, it just not same ballpark as Origins. Other games are meh at best, and this game will be Bioware's graveyard.

DAO was one of my all time favorite RPG too, too bad they kept making it worse with DA2 and DA Inquisition

Interested in the reviewer controversy than the game itself.

Graphics doesn't look good
combat system looks dull
Hobbit characters
Dead eyes
Lack of facial expressions

Pass.

My copy is downloading as we speak (had a steam gift card as a birthday present a while back) sat in my steam wallet so why not. It appears my whole street got the game because my download speed is unusually slow today :)
thoughts on the game?

thoughts on the game?
Early days for me as in I got through "Character Customisation" which took a Looong time, well for me about 45 minutes but there were loads of customisation categories that I ignored as I was not interested like scars, butt sizes and many other things similar, some could easily spend well over an hour in there I am sure.

One thing I did note is where quite a few people are mentioning the artwork/graphical design, I think it might be customisable to a certain degree for characters at least. I say that because when I was customising I came to a selection that referred to the character and their followers with 4 choices I think, Cinematic (default), Cold, Warm and sharp and trying each one changed the visual appearance, I will find out tonight if it makes a difference to the characters overall appearance once I get to a spot with some decent lighting.

Shader compilation is the first thing you come across when starting the game for the first time, it took around 10 - 12 minutes for me and the AIO fans were starting to ramp up significantly but by the time I got to the Bar straight after customisation things were steady and silent on the cooling front. Pre play everything seems smooth and well thought out but like I said early days, a nuke may drop at any time lol.

At the moment I have set detail to High on the games recommendation with a couple of further tweaks but RT off for now, I will play some more with graphical settings soon to get a feel for what my somewhat aging system can do with this game.

Edit: I started with Human Warrior. You also get to customise the Inquisitor who apparently makes a few appearances throughout the game.

Starfield started off the same but the ratings kept on slipping the more people played it

It's actually gotten better over time so far though. Was in the 60% area yesterday and is now close to 80%

I'd expect it to settle in the 6.5-7.5 ish area but that's pretty much 90-95% of games these days.

Not bad considering there are people likely buying it just to leave a bad review and then refunding it..... Cuz gamerz are ridiculous like that.

For all of my issues with Veilguard, I'd play it over Starfield anyday of the week. I got Starfield for free and still wanted a refund.

Wouldn't buy this one even if it was half the price.
A shame for the series, and probably the last one we gonna see...

Well me neither, but that goes for any game, I think its all far too expensive, 15 bucks is about max ill pay but even that I would have to seriously think about.

Very useful thanks, gonna tweak a few settings to ultra to see how that performs. I have now done the initial "stop Solus from tearing down the veil" prologue mission where the blighted Elven gods got freed and am at the Lighthouse for the first time and I have to say it's as smooth as silk, I caveat that with the fact that the story and Lore is just about to start and if I get disappointed that is where it is likely to be because so far combat mechanics have been pretty decent, but ................ still waiting for that nuke :D

So I have watched more gameplay just to see if its like what we were seeing in the testers footage/what has changed and one thing keeps sitting in my head. How is this a Dragon Age game? Like just in the style and gameplay it looks and plays nothing like the others. Granted its been 10 years but am I crazy? Even watching the two gameplays next to each other makes me think they are two totally different series.

I have to agree that so far it does not feel anything like the previous 3 but I am very early in and I believe the testers only got 7 hours worth of gameplay that was fairly early to mid in the game, I know there is going to be some looking back to the past and more interactions with people from Inquisition and before but I doubt it will be anywhere near enough to call itself a Dragon Age title, I hope I am wrong but I fear I may not be. I have just recruited Belara (Veil Jumper) and she is like a comic book character lol but I am nowhere near the dark fantasy bits which are further down the line I think.

On a side note, I am now mostly on Ultra settings (including textures/detail/visual effects) with a couple of exceptions and no RT, at these settings at 1440P I am using 8.75gig of Vram on my 4070 and the 11900K is chugging along using all cores as far as I can see and sitting in the 60's C, this game in combat whilst still early on remains pretty good and so far smooth and glitch free.
