NVIDIA is commemorating the 20th Anniversary of Half-Life 2, releasing a tribute video that includes an exclusive peek at the upcoming Half-Life 2 RTX remaster. In addition, NVIDIA has launched the Half-Life 2 Anniversary Sweepstakes with a custom wrapped Half-Life 2 GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER graphics card.

With November 16th marking the 20th anniversary of the launch of Half-Life 2, NVIDIA released a tribute video that includes an exclusive sneak peek of the upcoming Half-Life 2 RTX remaster. Developed by Orbifold Studios, a collective of developers who love Half-Life and were behind Half-Life 2: VR, Half-Life 2: Remade Assets, Project 17, and Rising the Bar: Redux, Half-Life 2 RTX is a community-made RTX Remix Project that will include full ray tracing, DLSS 3, and Reflex support.

In addition to the video, NVIDIA has launched the Half-Life 2 Anniversary Sweepstakes, where you can win a custom wrapped Half-Life 2 GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER graphics card. You can check out the official terms and conditions over at NVIDIA.

Orbifold Studios also announced that you can now add Half-Life 2 RTX to the wishlist on Steam.

I don't agree with the choice of words but yea, it already says the model elsewhere, they could have bothered to make that part fully flat.

They're not going to redesign the whole cooler for a once-off wrap, FFS.

Yes... but will we have enough VRAM to run it properly leather jacket man?

Anyways, I can't wait to relive this amazing game with Path Traced RTX, even till this very day, HL2 holds up to modern games. Ravenholme, I want to go to Ravenholme. Path Tracing in Horror games can only be epic.

Alien: Isolation, do that one next. :D

Such a big brick of a card. Gordon Freeman could use it as a heavy object, for his gravi-gun. It's probably capable of "one-shoting" the antlion guardian.

What a twist! Shame, AMD haven't made a comeback effort.
Link to the owner

And more

They can even fool around this time, with the Steam Deck (and SteamOS) narratives, if it had had enough RTRT power.

After all, that was the beginning of the long lasting cooperation, between AMD and Valve, which started as a software colab with ATi and AMD, but turned into interesting co-designed HW aliance.

Remember, how Both Steves were roasting Asus, over their TUF RTX3000 series backplate design, with the tire tracks imprint?

It's just smoothing out the outer side of that thing.

So, I just see it as a lot of PR effort with the card not even being up to par.

I am reasonably certain that there were plenty of optical mice at the tail end of 2004, actually. You sure you aren’t mixing it up with original HL?

I still remember back in the day Half Life 2 being advertised with ATI hardware, bought the Alyx game box, Good & annoying memories, Good cause HL2 is awesome, annoying cause steam on dialup was complete trash! Can't believe it's been 20years, I feel old, Welp! Time to build a new gaming PC.

Pretty possible , been a long time :) I think u might be right , i remember we quit playing HL when CS BETA 5 showed up, probably that was original HL and not HL2.

Edit: This one , i guess it was the first , would like an RTX / REMAKE version of it too:) (maybe it was the second too , i cant remember , im too old ^_^ )

Certain ball mice were still better than optical way back then just as optical mice remained better than laser for a long time after. At the time of HL2 you were using an MS 3.0 or a Logitech 500/510 if you were on an optical. It's always taken a bit for the tech to catch up.

Definitely don’t remember exactly what I was using back in 2004, but you are right probably that it was something in that vein. I remember getting a G1 in 2005, that’s for certain.

Not even a 4090? LOL.

I noticed that at least for the past year all of Nvidia's official giveaways have been of the RTX 4080 or 4080 Super, in some cases even the 4070 Ti Super. They aren't sparing a single RTX 4090, not even for promotional events. They have this tendency to seriously elitize their flagships to an asinine extent, I just hope the 5090 doesn't pull a Titan and becomes FE/first-party only and available exclusively in the NA/West EU markets again :banghead:

Hard pass on a 4090. It's for either workstations or tryhards. I mainly use my PC for gaming and web browsing so would much prefer a 4080.

I thought so too at the time I got my 4080. A year and a half later, I don't have such a high opinion of it anymore. Horizon Forbidden West and Final Fantasy XVI are some of the first games that actually run pretty sorry on this card if you're pushing 4K. The 4080 Super and 7900 XTX don't produce better results, so you pretty much need to step up to the 4090 and that would probably have made it the much smarter buy, even if I couldn't have afforded a fancy ROG Strix 4090...

Wonder why that card and not a 4090? If you’re going to do a special wrapped card, then use your current best.

Unless you want to play path-traced games with maxed out settings, in which case the 4080 isn’t fast enough, even the 4090 can be barely enough.

Let me guess, this RTX remaster will run at 20-30 fps on a 4090, and like crap on anything else? But my God I love Half-Life 2! So I will play it at 15fps! lol
