Microsoft late last week released an updated test version of Windows XP Service Pack 3 to about 15,000 beta testers. The update, the third such service pack for the six-year-old operating system is due out in final form in the first half of next year. The company said before its final release it expects to issue a public test version of the service pack, though it did not provide more specificity than at "a later date."

"We are targeting (the first half of) 2008 for the release of XP SP3," Microsoft said, "though our timing will always be based on customer feedback as a first priority."

Integrate?

Doesn't quite work that way.

It would be difficult for even MS to make XP 100% working with DX10.

They have no reason to spend resources providing something for people who are using a six year old operating system when it can be found fully working in their new one; where a good amount of applications would get 'broken' due to their age and functionality. So what does MS do then, start providing additional support for John Smith and Jane Doe? It's not healthy for MS or the customer in the long run.

Eh, My Rig is Old yes, But im saying a Update, My New Rig will have AX2 5000BE, 3870, 4 gigs Ram (XP is capable of running 4+ with Tweaks) Im just saying that Vista doesnt have the muscle to run games, Regardless of DX10 or DX9.

Yes, it's called XP x64. Unless you're talking about AWE. *shudders*

I also agree, making DX10 compatible with XP is a complete waste of their time. That's just one more thing they'd have to spend a ridiculous amount of time testing, and there's no guarantee that it'll even work the way it's supposed to. It's just another worry for them. Besides, in the long run that implementation is only going to apply to a small number of people, because by the time they get that out and working, most of the bugs in Vista will have been fixed (hopefully, probably) and people will be using that instead, and why the hell (at that point) would you want to revert to XP?

apparently with Vista being very cold accepted worse than ME, some game companies are starting to take advantage of the Capabilities without the use of the DX10 API

Dude, If you can't afford Vista, just admit it... Vista is a great OS. The only problems with Vista was third-party Driver issues that were never made. To compare Vista with ME is absurd.

BTW, Vista Home Premium 64 bit is $111 on Newegg.

Really? Vista is just XP with a bunch of shit piled on it. They did screw up the wddm, but don't tell me they can't make DX10 work on XP with relative ease (excluding the fact they are a bunch of dip shits).

I think he meant Vista x86? I know that works with 4 gigs with a tweak.
