The Witcher IV Gets New Trailer at The Game Awards, Pre-Rendered on Unannounced NVIDIA RTX GPU

CD Projekt RED pulled out a rabbit out of its hat, revealing the first trailer for the upcoming The Witcher IV title. The new trailer is pre-rendered in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5, which CD Projekt RED is now using instead of its own in-house engine, as announced earlier. More interestingly, it is pre-rendered on an "unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU." CD Projekt RED teamed up with Platige Image, who were responsible for intro cinematics in the previous Witcher games.

The trailer, which is almost six minutes long, follows Ciri, which confirms earlier rumors that the game might focus on Ciri as the main character. As detailed by CD Projekt RED, the trailer shows Ciri's new abilities and tools, as well as a small part of the story, a witcher contract set in a remote village. CD Projekt RED is promising that The Witcher IV will be "the most immersive and ambitious open-world Witcher game to date."

In the nearly six-minute trailer, viewers were introduced to Ciri, the adopted daughter of Geralt of Rivia, as she takes on a witcher contract in a remote village that has been terrorized for generations by a fearsome monster demanding human sacrifices. Framed as a short, self-contained Witcher story, the trailer showcases Ciri's new abilities and tools, including a chain and advanced magic powers.

At the heart of the trailer is Ciri's perspective as an outsider to the village. As the villagers say goodbye to one of their own - a young girl they are preparing for a traditional ritual sacrifice - Ciri chooses to intervene. Aiming to slay the beast and save the girl at the same time, Ciri finds herself at odds with the prejudices and superstitions of the people she tries to protect, leading her to confront a painful witcher lesson: that monsters come in all forms.

A lot of the best female characters ever like Ripley from Alien or Sarah Connor from Terminator are written like this and fans absolutely love them.
These days, there’s this dumb trend where people freak out over anything starring a woman, which is just ridiculous. What really matters is how well the character is written, and fortunately CD Projekt RED isn't Disney

yeah, I hope the lore handles this stuff in a creative smart way and doesn't just write it off to some bs reason. I'm 50/50 on it, I hope it ends up being great though.

Not a fan of Ciri as main char thou, thus that is why CDPR stripped her of her wings, she lost her skills.

The fight would make Geralt angry, amateur mistakes...

The same reason that Geralt, adult strong witcher with countless fights and years training behind him start at level 1 in Witcher 3 and every monster or human in the best case is equal to him in stats, if you leave the starting territories most average farmers can one shot you (if I remember correctly) or at least the monsters so they will nerf the super strong Ciri, that was beast as young teenager and now as adult with years of training will be weak as Geralt at level 1

There is a lot of interesting moves shown in the trailer. But just like Witcher 3 I'll wait till 2-3 major patches or go GoTY before buying one. Or when I can afford good GPU that can run it

Okay, well, let’s leave aside the fact that this is just a pre-rendered teaser that probably has as much to do with the game as the Bullets trailer did with CP2077. CDPR still has an annoying trend of starting the hype cycle too early.

Now, Ciri is a witcher now, straight up? She even seems to have witcher eyes now, so some level of mutation has taken place. Uh, how? It was made clear that the knowledge of the process is all but lost and it barely works for male candidates. Note that Geralts generation is very much assumed to be the last functionally, and is born of Vesemir essentially fucking around with what was left in Kaer Morhen without truly understanding it, which did lead to oddities like Geralts additional mutations. Sure, there are hints of Cat school developing an alternative procedure fit for females, but that was never tested and was supposed to be even less successful. So, who ran her through the Trials? And, if we assume that this follows the Sword ending (has to, right?), why the fuck would Geralt let her do that to herself? In the books it’s clear that neither he, nor Vesemir are inclined to even try potion mutagens on her since they don’t want her to die and then Triss, I believe, also warns that it would fuck up her physiology and it’s unknown how it would play with her Elder Blood, too. Not to mention that actually being a mutant isn’t really shown as something cool or desirable - it’s a shit life. Speaking of, are her powers just gone? Did they somehow got diminished/drained fighting the White Frost? I kinda always assumed that if Ciri WOULD be a lead in a Witcher game she’d be a witcher essentially in name and profession, but would rely on her power use instead of witcher stuff. And I also was “eh” on the whole concept at all since Ciri always felt more like a plot device than a character, plus this messes with players choice of the endings - I personally prefer the Empress one and the scene of her visiting Geralt in his vineyard where he retires to is just a nice bow on the series.

tl:dr I would have preferred a custom PC, really.

Don't worry the game developers have already stated she gets 20% less pay for any quest she turns in to the villagers, any time she goes to a witch doctor for a sickness cure she can only be treated for "woman's issues" and on the off chance she gets pregnant she must have the baby even if she dies during birth. The developers stated this game is 100% not woke.
