You're missing that PC gaming itself is a complete deal breaker to most people. PC gaming has built up a reptuation over decades of thiefs, cheaters, whiners, spoiled brats, and by far the most toxic incel culture of any set of gamers. All of those are complete deal breakers for many well adjusted people. Even though many of them have a PC that could game.
I know several people that have multi thousand dollar Macbooks and desktops with RTX 4090 that game on console almost exclusively simply because the PC gaming community is legitimately that toxic. Many of these people used to be PC gamers back in ye old days but eventually decided they didn't want to be a part of a community that is made up almost exclusively of the kid in the class that was obnoxious and screwed up everyone hated them.
The reason Nintendo is so "family friendly" is not the games on the system. Nintendo has had some of the most spectularly fucked up shit released on their consoles and outside of sanitizing the blood out of Mortal Kombat back in the 90s (a decision that held for one game and was due to political pressure) that never held up to reality. The reason is the Nintendo fan base is not just the least toxic of all gaming communities it's outright relentlessly possitive and happy.
Take a look at the Witcher 4. The people pitching a fit and going full incel on facial analyzation of the main character are vastly on the PC by such a large margin it's laughable. Other communities took it in stride and realized it sets with the plot. That holds up each time. The incel fits always come from the PC gamers so much so that it's punch line in jokes and what's posted on forums like this shows up on reddit with everyone pointing and laughing at what sort of sexless freaks PC gamers are. If you don't think that's an issue that's fine but a lot of people see the toxicity for what it is and go around it. The vast majority of PC gaming is on systems that are weaker than the PS5 anyways so the idea of "master race" best on hardware has never held true and the obvious Nazi origins of it are another thing that's constantly laughed about.
LOL. You really have a curious view on things.
PC gaming itself was always deemed 'too complicated' by the mainstream crowd; the communities have zero impact on it, other than offering ways to reduce that complexity for you. If anything the PC is the home of the people who
are real communities because they have the tools to maintain them and sure, depending on the game, you can also end up in a toxic slugfest. But that's no different from any random CoD on any random console, and its specific to younger boys getting to learn the world around them. Its a very defined group, you can recognize the voices easily. Most people call them kids - and some kids make a point of still being the same kids when they turn 30.
I know people too that completely counteract your view on why people do or don't do things
As far as toxic, incel... whiners and brats... take a brief look at social media. The platform doesn't define what people do and internet makes it all visible, but more importantly gives all these asshats a megaphone.
People define what people do. You're completely misfiring here, all it takes is one look at the real world news. In gaming, today? There is very little toxicity in fact, even in games you'd really expect a lot of it. People found their ways around that bottom tier bunch of misfits in pick-up-groups. I'm afraid I have to inform you that if your view on the PC is colored like you say it is, that's mostly a you problem.
It is only since the PS4 that console and PC gaming have moved closer together than ever. A huge amount of people have gaming PCs and a console. Students almost always have a laptop that can play a couple games too.; heck they don't even need a new one, they all play Civilization V or Pubg or some other low-demand multiplayer
There is a generational divide of the past that is now slowly getting erased - everyone has grown up with gaming, and with PC gaming these days. Those events are far more influential on who plays what and when.
anyone that throws around the terms toxic and incel is usually projecting pretty hard. usually pretty toxic people who want to control everyone else's speech.
also if you think pc gaming is toxic you are too young to remember modern warfare lobbies.
Precisely. I can smell this category from miles away at this point lol. So obvious
Let's capture a dose of reality, with real numbers shall we
Also its fun adding all the moments to this chart when people said en masse 'PC gaming is dying'.
In the meantime, PC has remained as the most solid and reliable gaming platform throughout history. Mobile enters the fray: OKAY. We'll just game
more. What's also interesting here is that the consoles are in fact stagnating
hard, that market is clearly saturated. But PC? YoY Growth.
Every time.
Also
@SOAREVERSOR look at that immense share for cloud gaming, another one of those peculiar takes of yours. Def taking the market by storm. I'm sure the last 4 years have completely erased all that PC share of 40B
I think its time you move to a different bubble to get your information from.
