AMD's upcoming Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card can boost its engine clock up to 3.10 GHz, a new leak that surfaced on ChipHell says. Depending on the board design, its total board power can reach up to 330 W, the leak adds. The GPU should come with a very high base frequency for the engine clock, with the leaker claiming a 2.80 GHz base frequency (can be interpreted as Game clocks), with the GPU boosting itself up to 3.10 GHz when the power and thermals permit. The RX 9070 XT will be the fastest graphics card from AMD to be based on its next-generation RDNA 4 graphics architecture. The company isn't targeting the enthusiast segment with this card, but rather the performance segment, where it is expected to go up against NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5070 series.

RDNA 4 is expected to introduce massive generational gains in ray tracing performance, as AMD is rumored to have significantly developed its ray tracing hardware, to reduce the performance cost of ray tracing. However, as it stands, the "Navi 48" silicon that the RX 9070 XT is based on, is still a performance-segment chip, which succeeds the "Navi 32" and "Navi 22," with a rumored compute unit count of 64, or 4,096 stream processors. Performance-related rumors swing wildly. One set of rumors say that the card's raster graphics performance is in league of the RX 7900 GRE but with ray tracing performance exceeding that of the RX 7900 XTX; while another set of rumors say it beats the RX 7900 XT in raster performance, and sneaks up on the RTX 4080. We'll know for sure in about a month's time.

price will be the most important factor here, and we all know AMD will decide it after Nvidia releases theirs, and that's were AMD's problem is.

Meh, doubt it, AMD could have clawed away so much marketshare from nGreedia if they prices their previous generation GPUs well, however, they too decided to price gouge their customers. The only light at the end of the tunnel I see is Intel, strange as that may sound.

Anyhoo, 3Ghz Clocks are awesome, hope we see those on the new nGreedia GPUs too. :)

i was saying the same but i guess i couldn't make the message be clear. They will wait for Nvidia to release their prices and take 50/100 usd from it and that's their strategy.

The leaks are still all over the place and it's hell trying to get a handle on specs let alone what this card really is before announcement/launch.
The price is going to matter, the slim price margins mattering WAY more than usual if this is what I think is about to happen.
Nothing short of a surgical grade spanner in the works for performance focused users? I'm more interested in the tools and improvements for creators.

It will have to be far more serious than that. Maybe -150/200 to really stir the fear. The alleged purpose is to regain market share. That will certainly do it.

They are only 10 years away from threatening Nvidia's monopoly.
Just wait.

The alleged purpose is to regain market share. That will certainly do it.
That's just an excuse for not making enthusiast cards. Enthusiast cards sell also midrange and low end cards. People see the review of the 4090, their jaw drops, their wallet says "Sorry boss, not enough money" and then they go out and buy a cheaper Nvidia card hoping that even that cheaper model will have some of that magic integrated in the 4090.
AMD recently said that they can't even produce enough Instinct cards, that's why their share dropped from over $160 down to even under $120. They don't have resources to spare for the gaming market, a market that is hostile to them. So they limit their exposure to that market by making cards that will have a sustainable value in the market and they will be able to keep selling those for years without having to do serious price adjustments. RDNA 4 is probably a fixed RDNA 3 plus the RT improvements SONY demanded from them to remain a customer. AMD's only new problem is Intel, but I think they will try to ignore Intel for now. They will take the risk to let Intel enjoy some market share success. Lowering prices and making RX 9000 series very attractive to consumers wouldn't help them if they don't have the resources to cover the demand. And I think they don't have those resources. An RX 9070 at $400 would end up out of stock pretty fast and with inflated pricing like the 9800X3D.

If the 9070XT can draw 330 watts surely it must be more powerful than a 7900XT? I know its not a fact about any of this yet, I'm hoping it is at least worth being released.

the gaming market, a market that is hostile to them

it wasn't more hostile compared to Intel's ARC and see how things are now for them.
In the meantime AMD will make it even more hostile i bet, and keep complaining about how hostile it is. Sometimes you make your own fate.

This GPU should sell like hotcakes IF it's priced 400, 450 bucks max to return value into the midrange market once again. Otherwise it will be just another Radeon failure in the line of missed opportunities. I hope Radeon division finally learned their lesson from RDNA3 debacle. I mean 0.2% market share on steam survey for entire RDNA3 lineup? Can it get any worse than that?

Since it will most likely be using a 4nm or 3nm process and running at such high clocks, at this power draw (330W) my guess it would perform about the same as an RTX 4080.

the most hilarious about that survey is that their #1 card is the 7900xtx and they want to abandon the high end to gain market share. Shit on the few that still support them unconditionally :D

A 330W TDP basically tells me AMD wanted to squeeze every available drop of performance they mass-producably could out of this chip, which makes total financial sense. Especially when this is the highest end gaming GPU they plan to launch this generation. The discussion about efficiency can take a back seat.

Regarding price tag - its very AMD to finetune the MSRP at the very last minute for their products.

So people with 7900XTX's support AMD unconditionally? For a while it was just a very sensible card to buy.

They should do the exact same what they did with Polaris. RX 480/580 wasn't the fastest card on the market, but it was priced very competitively.

From all the specs gethered here and suggested prices, IF true, the only buy worthy GPUs this gen will be Intel for low to low midrange, 5090 for the rich and nothing else for the rest price segments. Strange times when GPU companies don't wanna sell you gpus. Not really. And yet uneducated ones will likely grab Ngreedia's junk dies like they're pure gold again.

Intel arc drivers have been much worse than Radeon drivers with weird performance issues or games not working, yet everyone is still more hostile towards AMD.
The hostility comes from Nvidia buyers wanting AMD to give away cards, but those people still buy Nvidia cards because of the brand image. However regarding price I'd like to see the 9070xt at $450-500, if it performs like a 7900xt with improved RT.
Shit on the few that still support them unconditionally :D
Not really, the rumors so far have been the 9070 isn't going to outperform the 7900XTX, xtx owners don't need to upgrade.

The problem I hear from Coreteks and some other sources is that Radeon division tried to implement chiplet design once more and failed miserably. Now they're on damage control, as TSMC's waffers aren't cheap, trying to sell what's still possible to sell for as much as possible to at least cover production costs. So IF true, don't expect RX 470/480/580 pricing here. Radeon division is one step away from focusing completely on APUs, consoles and datacenter GPUs, and if RDNA4 doesn't cover it's costs of R&D Lisa might just pull the plug on retail discrete GPUs altogether :(

I don't think people do that. Well, not enough people to make a dent in any statistics anyway. I genuinely think one main reason AMD isn't selling better is because stuff like this, which shows the AMD card being faster in everything not raytraced, but the article ends up recommending the Nvidia card because RT support and it's better at AI stuff because that was in the early AI boom. It's basic FOMO, especially today when everyone and their dog is nothing but a Youtuber-in-waiting, so you gotta get a card that has that sweeeeeeet software support!
