MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming Trio "Blackwell" Box Leaked

Here are some of the first pictures of the MSI GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming Trio "Blackwell" graphics card. The box art provides the first look at what the actual product will look like. It remains over 2 slots thick, and is fairly long; with a trio of what look like 100 mm fans. As with all past generation Gaming X series graphics cards from MSI, this product will feature extensive RGB LED lighting, and a fairly generous factory overclock among its base and premium tiers (Gaming and Gaming X); although historically, MSI's Suprim series has had the company's highest factory tuning.

The back-side of the box lists out MSI-specific and NVIDIA "Blackwell" specific features. The RTX 50-series will see MSI debut the new StormForce fan, which appears to have greater impeller depth than the previous-generation TorX 3.0 fan. The impellers are webbed for axial airflow, the fan blades have ridges. The box also says that the cooler features a nickel-plated copper base-plate, which makes contact with the GPU, which probably has mirror finish. This baseplate will be backed by Core Pipes, which are the cooler's copper heatpipes made square near the baseplate for better contact with it. Lastly, the card comes with a metal backplate—no surprises there. NVIDIA is looking to debut the GeForce RTX 5080 on January 21.

Blah, blah, blah......... all these psyco-babble assumptions made possible by looking at a so-called "retail" box, which is most likely a pre-release mock-up, which could easily have been staged just to throw off other mfgr's and the public about the actual specs & features of the card........

If the RTX 5080 performance will not significantly higher than the RTX 4090, some people would prefer the RTX 4090 with 24GB in the same price. If get 5080 only 16GB. Because is too little in 2025. Too little for some games, especially upcoming ones, too little for 4K and RT. Not to mention the price itself, more than $700, more then $1000 for a 16GB card in 2025, even with frame generators The only thing that can save these cards is something like DLSS 4.0 or FG 2.0. Only then RTX 4000 owners can get pretty pissed off

They won't have competition to 5080 so why would they care? They could sell them with 12GB, for 1000$ and people probably would still buy them and defend them. They just need new software feature locked only to 50 series and watch them sell. And even if they won't sell, gaming is not their top priority anyway. Those are basically scraps of their main AI focus.
Man how I wish AMD to actually step their game up to the point where it simply doesn't make sense to buy nvidia, so that we can actually have competition.

Looks more like a 2.5 width to me - the fans seem to stick out more than the shroud that's nearly flush with the slot covers.

If so, I'd be happy to see newer cards return to more sensible sizes. More performance for less power/heat would be a trend I'd like to see again in all honesty.

16GB is plenty - benchmarks only seem to show 0.6% higher frames in the 4060ti 16GB vs the 8GB card, so even 8GB > 16GB makes barely any difference. Allocated memory is different to required memory. A game can load assets into memory and not bother removing them even when no longer needed if there's a ton of memory spare.

This is because AD106 is very small and slow chip, it can't use more than 8 GB. The bottleneck is in the slow shaders, not in the VRAM ceiling.

Doesn't matter. If they will sell it for 700$ then ok I can accept 16GB, but they will sell it at 1000$+. Even if there is not a single game now that uses more than 16GB it still should have 20GB. Simply because you are paying a large amount of money for it.

My comments weren't around value for money or whatever (lol value for money on a 1k+ card). Was more challenging the comment that it needs more than 16GB for actual games, which it really doesn't. If people want VRAM which they don't need fine, but people shouldn't be saying cards need more than 16GB to play games at max settings/4k etc.

What We Learned​

So there you have it: more and more games are using over 8GB of VRAM, particularly at 1440p with high-quality settings. As we've known for a while now, ray tracing does increase VRAM usage substantially, so if you are interested in RT moving forward, we recommend a minimum of 16GB.

MSI RTX 4080 Super Gaming Trio:

TPU reviewed the 'Expert' variant, and it's load was over 300W with spikes near 400W. That card also featured a 3 slot design.

Ignoring all technical reasons, the biggest reason why I think these cards will be at least as large as the last-gen? There's no reason for them to be small.

• The fashion trend is aquarium chassis with ample space for +4 slot cards. People want to showcase their investment.
• When people buy something expensive, they often associate weight and size with it. 5080 and 5090 have no rival, and people expect them to visually represent that.
• Gaming PCs have become a PC Master Race flex. Ludicrous design sell very well to that crowd.
• Standing out from the competition still matters. Many people will instinctively judge a 'wimpy' 2-slot card their about to drop +$1,500 USD on.

Not sure about Palit, but it's currently on eBay for $1,500 USD.

You missed the point.

You made the argument that the was no reason for AIBs to offer smaller coolers while ignoring the fact that there is a direct incentive from NVIDIA to push AIBs to at least offer some '' SFF-Ready '' models.

Obviously not all AIBs were massively onboard last gen but more and more AIBs are going to pick up on this trend with 50 series and beyond.

There is a reason that 5080 Gaming X Trio is 2,5 slots
