Not quite, it's using an ATX12VO PSU and if you read the entire press release, you'll find this:
True, but that's not proprietary at least. ATX 12VO is at least something you can source from third parties rather than Dell.

The incompatible case without paying Dell tax for a motherboard standoff adapters is rude, but I guess a fully standardised Dell really was too good to be true.

I'm never buying another Dell desktop, but that doesn't mean they don't cross my workshop desk from time to time.

There roots would be the end of "Alienware" / beginning of the Dell acquisition, as the systems that made them (the big MF towers in wild colors) came with off the shelf performance parts. The only proprietary stuff were there LED/Fan controllers and cases. IMO going by that kind of pedigree the only people that come close nowadays is puget systems and falcon northwest.
This little tidbit..

Possibly, I haven't really looked, but I also haven't seen any ATX12VO PSUs for sale.
The incompatible case without paying Dell tax for a motherboard standoff adapters is rude, but I guess a fully standardised Dell really was too good to be true.
It's unclear what that even does.

Like most of us here then.

So right of the bat I can Dell still has NOT learned from the shite designs of the past -
  • blocking the front panel and forcing the air to make a 90 degree turn has been shown to hurting cooloing perf.
  • Another potentially bespoke, non-standard motherboard with non-standard power delivery?
  • using a dead-end CPU series (arrowlake).

But positives are I like the all black mobo and interior, amd easy to remove filters... I will await the GamersNexus review, to see how badly Dell get hammered...
