Halo 5: Guardians has remained exclusive to Microsoft Xbox gaming systems since launching back in October 2015, during the Xbox One era—an approaching ten-year anniversary has fans wishing for a possible port over to PC platforms. Hopes were elevated late last week due to an intriguing image popping up on Lenovo's Legion Go S product page. A certain promo image depicts screen content featuring a Steam menu session with an entry for Halo 5. This discovery (courtesy of Rebs Gaming) prompted much online chatter about the possible PC port being unveiled at the next Xbox Developer_Direct—scheduled for broadcast on January 23.

343 Industries (now Halo Studios) has ported five titles over to PC—neatly compiled in the form of Halo: Master Chief Collection—but the absence of Guardians has been a lingering sore spot. Over the past weekend, Lenovo senior community manager—Ben Green—dampened expectations. In a curt response to a query (on social media) regarding the alleged leak, he shot down the notion that Lenovo had inadvertently leaked the existence of a Halo 5: Guardians PC port. It is possible that Lenovo's marketing department had mocked-up the image in error. Microsoft's gaming division has committed to spreading its most visible IPs to "rival" platforms, so the upcoming Xbox Developer_Direct could harbor a surprise or two.

I do not understand the logic, this game was the least popular Halo ever and now they want to put a new release on PC? I mean, I am a huge Halo fan but even I did not like this one (Story wise was terrible, Multiplayer was not the worst but was not great either. Its especially a problem considering they essentially wrote off 4 and 5's story line for a new one starting with Infinite which makes this one less impactful to play.

I agree, it makes little sense. I mean, it'll be cool to have some new multiplayer on PC, especially with forge, but Halo has long suffered from Disney syndrome. MS has just gone out of their way to piss of their player base, and apathy has set in. MCC and Infinite's player numbers are at low points, and with the destruction of the Digsite team MS has burned what little goodwill was left in the fandom. Most have written off newer halos and moved on.

Halo 5 should have been part of the MCC during its heyday.

What makes it even funnier is, after butchering Halo to make 4 and 5, 343/halo studios (dont let them get away with this rebranding) wrote off ANY investment in this new story to make Infinite, only to let that wither on the vine and then abandon IT as well.

Imagine burying two stories in the dirt in just a decade. Amazing work! There is absolutely no reason to ever get invested in anything Halo studios will ever make again, and somehow these people just dont get it.

I'm not much for FPS games but I always liked the classic franchises like Doom, Wolfenstein, Turok, and a couple others. I got heavy into Halo franchise eventually but after 3 I haven't been following it in any seriousness. Halo 5 as well as Infinite I have not yet played. Waiting until I buy a new system to also buy Infinite so I can crank up settings. I would like to play through 5 "just because" since I've played practically every other Halo game in existence. I personally thought it was a mistake when it wasn't included in the MCC which really was done quite well I thought. All the ports were great to play through again with QOL improvements.

With Halo 4, I didn't think the story was that bad. I even liked it, not as well as previous entries but thought it had potential. The multiplayer was trash though and was the first one I really struggled to want to play online.

5 to me as the opposite problem, the story was trash (Other than the few parts as Master Chief and blue team) and the multiplayer was ok. I felt the maps were ok and the gameplay was ok, but the weapons encouraged the easy guns and none of the skilled ones.(At least for the most part).

I liked Infinite overall, story was the best 343 has done (Mostly because I liked Atriox and the banished, plus Chief felt more like classic chief). I liked the open world, but it really was very basic and lacked in extra biomes, cool crash sites, or other things to keep it interesting. Multiplayer was better in many areas, however again I felt the weapons were the worst in the series bar none. Only like 3 I can stand to use on the regular while the rest range from useless to unpredictable (Even after practicing for awhile with them to figure out how they work). Rest of the stuff like equipment was just meh to me.

I had heard about them resetting again, which to me is stupid at this point. Might as well try to make the new story interesting. Another reset is just going to rub me the wrong way. I hope they at least keep Atriox and The Banished. Yea the rebranding will only work if they get some real talent to work on the IP. Right now, they are not impressing me.

Regardless of if the game comes out on pc, sort of doubt the leak.
As I can't see why Lenovo would even be in the position to be able to leak it.

It's weird that they haven't ported this. They should do it just for the sake of completion. It would probably be a low-effort port at this point. The game ran at 60 FPS on Xbox One after all.

Also, I think MCC is coming to Sony and Nintendo consoles, so it would be a good idea to include it.

I just can't believe how poorly Infinite runs on my PC. The trees are all mush, and the textures on characters look really bad. I know my gaming rig is not the best, but numerous other games look way better, even demanding titles. I can't find settings for Infinite that don't look terrible, and I've held off purchasing Infinite's campaign because I don't believe it would be a good experience.

As an avid Halo fan from inception to today (with varying enthusiasm depending on the game ofc), it's be awesome to see 5 come to PC. I'd imagine the development effort is relatively low given the console it debuted on is so similar to PC.

It would be double neat if it were just also included in the MCC, although I'd need to build up to do another full playthrough with all the skulls I have achieved with my best mate before. Legendary (of course) with "most" skulls on, and a couple of fun ones too.

What an amazing run this was, such a crazy challenge and I had some fun commemorating it with this poster which was also printed to metal for myself and 'mustardbooj'

Halo 4 suffers from being somewhat convoluted with details just outright missing unless you read supplementary material which, just, no. If your primary media cannot stand on its own without supplementary media in other forms, you have failed to tell a story. It also retcons Guilty Spark's comment about humans being forerunner, introducing this new super powerful species that TOALLY existed before you just didnt see them, ece. It wasn't as offensively bad at storytelling as some newer media, but from a writing standpoint it's got plotholes and contrivances galore that just rip at one's investment.

The thing about "potential" is that it doesnt mean anything. EVERY story has potential. I can come up with a universe in my head in about 10 seconds that has "potential". The ability to execute on that potential and turn it into an actual story with stakes and interesting characters, that's the hard part, and a part that 343 has continuously failed at doing properly. Along with game design, 343 has continuously proven they dont understand how to balance a multiplayer game (replacing shotguns with sniper rifles on a close quarters map, seriously? WTAF?).

Infinite is frankly just insulting. After failing multiple times, shooting themselves in the foot to the point of needing prosthetics, they FINALLY got gameplay that didnt suck. It actually felt good. They were trying something new........and forgot to make the content for the game. The barebones campaign shorter then CE and alpha tier multiplayer combined with a total lack of updates for a *live service* game was just comical, and has destroyed fan interest in halo these days. They then accidentally found a nugget with weapon variants and to this day restrict them to super fiesta. Just.......SMH. Only 343 could be this tone deaf. Dont get me started on the clown show which was their inability to add game modes or a proper lobby system. JUST COPY REACH, ITS NOT THAT HARD!

If they do re release 5, be prepared to wait 3-4 years for them to actually fix it, much like the MCC and infinite.

I just can't believe how poorly Infinite runs on my PC. The trees are all mush, and the textures on characters look really bad. My favorite bug, aside from the netcode that is STILL somehow worse then what halo 2 managed on a box of scraps 20 years ago, is the graphical settings occasionally reverting to the lowest no matter what you have them set to, and if you are on linux, this change becomes permanent. That new engine of theirs is a total shatshow.

I agree it's not a "leak" to take any hint of anything along with it, because it's not a leak. People were just looking for something when there really was nothing lol. But....the whole two fans in this thread, me being one of them, that would want to play this game would appreciate a PC port. I bought an Xbox 360 while I was in college and have not, and will not ever buy another console again. So last game I played on a console was Halo 4. Only way I'm gonna get to play 5 now a days would be a PC port....hence my interest.

4 was less popular back then, I mean nowadays I think 4 is more popular but during the time it came out 5 was definitely more popular (not even just because it was newer, but also because the game was 2/3's better). 4's only real redeeming quality for me was its story (which even then its very here or there for some people, I personally liked it), the multiplayer is by far the worst the series has ever seen and the forge is a step down from reaches. Halo 5 has a far worse story but had a better multiplayer (subjectively, it wasn't really halo like tbh but I think for what it was it was good in its own way) and a really good forge mode.

As an avid Halo fan from inception to today (with varying enthusiasm depending on the game ofc), it's be awesome to see 5 come to PC. I'd imagine the development effort is relatively low given the console it debuted on is so similar to PC.
Oh yeah. Halo 5 Forge was apparently available on PC for awhile so they already have a bit of groundwork. I doubt it would be hard in the slightest to port Halo 5 to PC. I hope it happens anyway, even if its just a rumor. Because Halo 5 deserves the same treatment as any other halo game none the less; plus, I think its multiplayer and forge were good in their own unique way. If it weren't for the microtransaction slop Halo 5 suffered from its multiplayer would be very memorable and fun imo.

I just can't believe how poorly Infinite runs on my PC. The trees are all mush, and the textures on characters look really bad. Infinite is a weirdly graphically intense game for really no discernible reason. They made the multiplayer free and were clearly trying to get people to play it but the game is not optimized in a competitive sense. I think with the right hardware though it looks fine. I'd say to atleast a 6600 XT / 3060 / A770 is probably more accurately where id put the recommended specs for it on gpu tbh. I think part of it too is that the game is more CPU intensive that it leads on imo.

If anything, dusting off old IPs and porting them to PC seems like a relatively cheap way to scrape together a bit more cash.

Is Halo 5 going to break sales records on PC? No ofc not. But it's likely very low effort to get it released in working condition and the completionists and fans will buy it up on discount and help boost revenue for a quarter.

One of my favorite aspects of the game was that it did a really good job bringing vehicles into play, and my buddy and I would cram the indestructible Warthog into any place it would fit. In silent cartographer, if you get it up the hill, it's far easier to kill those 2 hunters by just running them over. :D

I had the exact same reaction. At first I thought that level ruined the game, then I came to appreciate the survival nature of it. You go backward as much as you do forward. I even like one of the cut subtitles "but I don't want to ride the elevator!" It's like Bungie knew they were pushing your stress tolerance to the limit. Fortunately, corded controllers don't fly as far. :D

Have same problems with Infinite's campaign on my PC. I think it's a LOD problem because sometimes it looks great but other times (particularly after fast traveling) both models and textures seem to be on their lowest detail version.

I don't disagree with you, I think 4 has aged better because 5's story was so bad that 4 looked alot better by comparison. Multiplayer on 4 was horrible, I could never get into it and I used to have 12 hours sessions playing Halo 3 and Reach. I played 5 a decent amount, however I lost interest in it because it felt too casual at times in the wrong way. I didn't feel like the game had a learning curve on making the weapons work better like Reach and before where there were easier to use guns, but the guns like the BR, Carbine, Needle Rifle, etc had a learning curve to make them more useful. You could really tell in those games who was better with the weapons by how they aimed with each gun and what they picked up.

I am/was a book reader but I totally agree with your point. Having to read supplementary material to make a story make sense ruins it. What I meant by potential was I had an interest in seeing more with what they were doing after 4. I thought that it was definitely rougher than previous stories in terms of writing quality but it kept my interest and want for more. 5 Completely ruined it for me and I did not have much interest at all in seeing where the story went. I would have had more respect if the writers had just left Cortana dead, or if they really wanted to bring her back do like a Star Trek 3 (Old 3, search for Spock I mean).

I agree, 343 really had some golden nuggets with Infinite and basically kept making bad decisions on with the nuggets and ran the game into the ground. The story did feel short, though doing the side stuff expanded it to be very long. However, they should not rely on side quests to make up for a shorter campaign. Multiplayer can be fun and had alot of great elements when playing online. However like you said, lack of support (Maps came too late for instance), terrible balancing of weapons (Someone needs to be fired if they thought the Ravager was even useable in the form it came out in) on top of some weapons being so random they are hard to determine how to be useful.

Yea I don't know why they have this disdain from just using old ideas from Reach and 3. Reach definitely had the best game modes of all the games (I loved Invasion) and they honestly should have kept that system. Its like they wanted to separate so bad from Bungie that they just decided to not use almost anything from the previous games. Hopefully they fire a lot of the staff and get people who actually know what they are doing next time I guess.

I will say, Halo wars 2 was alright.
