Under the full Wolf Moon, Rebel Wolves revealed the first look into the world of THE BLOOD OF DAWNWALKER, its action RPG. The studio, co-founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set the game in an alternative 14th century, where feudal lords have been overthrown by a clique of powerful vampires. In this narrative sandbox players will forge their own story about saving their family… or taking whatever path their choices lead them down. THE BLOOD OF DAWNWALKER is developed by Rebel Wolves in Unreal Engine 5 and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc., for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Players can follow the game's latest developments on the official website.

14th century Europe. Bloody conflicts sweep the lands, and the Black Death comes for the survivors. In the wake of the disasters claiming thousands of lives, the decimated human population struggles for survival. It's a moment of weakness. In Vale Sangora, somewhere in a forgotten corner of the Carpathian Mountains, vampires seize their opportunity to walk out of the shadows, overthrow the feudal lords and claim what they've been denied for centuries: freedom, and ultimate power that comes with it. Legends turn into reality, and history as we know it will never be the same.

THE BLOOD OF DAWNWALKER is the first chapter of the Rebel Wolves' original dark fantasy saga. You play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, forever treading the line between the world of day and the realm of night. Not fully human, not entirely a vampire, you have 30 days and nights to save your family or swear revenge on your sire and destroy everyone standing in your way.

"Inspired by classic RPGs, we want players to feel the sense of urgency in an open world game. There are multiple approaches to saving Coen's family with no clear division between main and side quests, you decide on how you spend the time.", explains Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Game Director and Co-Founder of Rebel Wolves. "Time is a resource and with each quest progressing its passage, it is impossible to complete all stories and arcs before the dreadful deadline, making each playthrough unique. We call it a narrative sandbox."

The freedom in gameplay is reflected in Coen's very nature as a Dawnwalker. Depending on the time of day, players will have different skills, abilities and storyline outcomes. Players must choose: do they fight for humanity or embrace the cursed powers?

Watch THE BLOOD OF DAWNWALKER opening cinematic, taking place two years before the game, and meet Coen, his sister Lunka and the vampire clique led by their ruthless yet charismatic lord, Brencis. And take a look at a glimpse at the in-engine gameplay teaser:

The Rebel Wolves pack plans to share more information about THE BLOOD OF DAWNWALKER in the following months, including a gameplay reveal this summer.

Looks like a blend of Witcher and Shadow or Mordor. Since both are great, I'll be looking forward to this.

I never understood the whole "obsession" with vampires but I do hope it's good

Its going to be like Witcher but better.

If I had a dollar for every time I've had that thought after wathing some pumped up game trailer I'd have enough to buy a decent cup coffee or maybe two. :p

I'm still waiting for all the "better" versions I've been mislead to believe I'd have because what actually happened was (a) the new game not only wasn't better but actually worse by all applicable metrics or (b) the studio couldn't finish the game either for lack of funding or because the whole thing was way out of their league from the begining.

Case in point: The Day Before. I've got like 500 hours between The Division 1 and 2 so I saw the TDB trailer and thought "Its going to be like The Division but better."
Sounds familiar?

Here's one more: EA's Anthem. Again, I've got I don't know how many hours in Warframe so... you can fill in the rest. :D

Let me stop you right there.

1. The Day Before was/is/still a scam.
2. The Division is ubislop low effort garbage and made by a company that doesnt know how to make good games at this stage in the companies lifespan
3. EA Anthem... Well its EA. What do you expect?? Bioware also wasnt the same Bioware that made the earlier classics that everyone loved and Bioware gets very little control over design decisions because it all boils down to what Andrew Wilson wants to put in it rather than letting the writers and developers put things in that would fit in with the game.

Why are you throwing the people who made Witcher 3 into the same bucket as the rest of the garbage above? Why do you think everyone left CDPR to go start their own studio or work at Warhorse Studios? The same thing happened with some of the OG Blizzard people, Bungie and EA/DICE people. There is are reasons they are all leaving and not just because they arent being allowed to make the game they want to make. Im sure a lot of OG Bioware people also left to go form their own studio and its going to be happening a lot more.

Why should I take your opinion seriously given the games you have used as examples?

Warframe is pretty dope though. I'll give you that. sometimes the new content isnt all that and its a little grindy but its a lot better than a lot of more modern titles.

I'm sceptical if that's going to be case but it sure does vibe just from the music. Hope we're getting it on GOG. . . and that the founder learnt his lesson about workplace bullying after fleeing CDPR to escape the allegations.

some went to Ubisoft Montreal, some to Yellow Brick Games, some to Archetype. Some went to start micro-brewery. If you get a few good games out of a studio, count your blessings.

It doesn't matter which games I use as example. What matters is how much "better" the new game needs to be to match or surpass your prior experience and current expectations in the circunstances I mentioned which are (a) the game released but like Anthem it wasn't nearly as good as expected or (b) we never got an actual game, like TDB, regardless of the reason.

There are two issues here:
  1. "Better" is very subjective when speaking about entertainment. You might have greatly enjoyed what the rest of the world considers a garbage game.
  2. A person generally doesn't have expectations about games they didn't enjoy. By saying "Its going to be like Witcher" your also saying "I did enjoy The Witcher games a whole lot and I wish there was more so I'm hoping Rebel Wolves can pull it off" and that means whatever they do will be compared against your current sensibilities but also against your sense of nostalgia.
Give it a try. Find me two games where you saw the trailer, read the studio roster, thought "Its going to be like *** but better" and it actually was.
