24GB isn't possible with a 256-bit bus yet. I doubt that people would still want an overpriced 192-bit card like the 4070 Ti was.
The 5080 should have been a 320-bit card with 20GB of VRAM.
This garbage 5080 wouldn't have pass even for a 5070 a couple of years ago, both performance and spec wise.

That's why AMD is the future. Realistic pricing with common sense frame buffers. 16GB VRAM was common place highend in 2017 for VEGA and VOTLA.

It is true, look at their AI and datacenter profit share relative to gaming, although they've clouded the whole ratio by changing it to "AI & gaming".
And a competitor delivering the best they can within their R&D budget doesn't equal giving their customer the scraps, it isn't the same thing at all. I'm not even going to get into what the 9070XT should cost compared to the 5080, because you'll buy Nvidia anyway and so will everyone else even though Nvidia is withholding RTX 50 series supply to keep prices high.
10 Billion yearly revenue for a company only selling gaming hardware is pretty good, the only gaming companies doing better are selling software. And that's with Nvidia controlling 90% of the dGPU market. So I don't think that gaming hardware bought by gamers has the potential to move as much money as the data center. Comparing profits shares is probably not an ideal way to gauge the amount of effort that a company puts into a sector, market trends have too much of an influence. The datacenter market suddenly crashing wouldn't mean that Nvidia stopped trying, just that this market isn't as profitable as it used to be.
The Mac only represents 8% of Apple total revenue, yet, they still went with the trouble of making in-house high-performance and expensive SoC fabbed at TSMC for them

Lmao at ample stock comments from peeps is thread. I saw a couple of posts, laughed, and realized people will defend their favourite company like it's their family business and straight up comment without knowing facts. GN did a decent coverage of general stock levels so please go and check it out. If you're whining about not wanting to see a thumbnail with someones face on it, then either don't comment or read about it elsewhere to not look like a fool.

Nvidia started mass production this month to get it out of the door asap. Most locations (I think all?) of Canada Computers, one of the largest retail outlets, got zero units of 5090. Zero.

Memory express always does a pre-order and they cancelled their pre-orders because according to them the stock levels are low on an unprecedented level and they can't fulfill their pre-orders and feel bad about holding people's money for that long. So yeah there goes my pre-order but whatever.

Then there's BB. They didn't even have units in store this time. Anyway, I'm not even sure why i'm explaining a widely known fact. I guess it's because I read some comments about 'substantial stock' and the level of ignorance was hard to ignore. Tbh posting stuff like that in a tech forum is borderline lying, you should know better.

Nvidia had a paper launch, even scalpers are returning them due to major driver issues. But I don't get why Nvidia always seems to limit its GPUs in Ram but still prices its GPUs pretty high. :wtf: Oh that's right. Its because they get away with it each and every generation.

Memory express always does a pre-order and they cancelled their pre-orders because according to them the stock levels are low on an unprecedented level and they can't fulfill their pre-orders and feel bad about holding people's money for that long. So yeah there goes my pre-order but whatever.
Interesting. Could this be that these cards are going to sell for a lot more than previously thought? Seeing how they don't have supply. So they cancelled the pre-orders. :fear:

You think being a peasant farmhand in medieval Europe was interesting?
It depends on your definition of "interesting". Everyone goes through the trials and tribulations of life regardless of when and where you're born. Arguably we are probably more ignorant of that fact today in a lot of places.

Waking, dreaming, deep sleep, the cycle continues...

this is a rather odd article, who cares what this person thinks the hardware should be like? (Yeah, I know, it was done for click-bait)

if you read most any forum posts, most people aren't happy with what Nvidia (or AMD or Intel) is offering, and Nvidia could care less about what anyone thinks, they just know people will buy whatever they make, so the real fault is the people buying the hardware they claim they don't like

in other words, if you don't like something, then don't buy it, put your $ where your mouth is

nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything, so cry me a river

when they see their product isn't selling, THEN they will take action to do something

Just wanna reiterate that Snowden was probably not talking about the value of these cards for gaming. His shtick is digital privacy. He wants broader public access to local AI models, not HD textures.

I'm shaking my head a bit at the 5 pages of comments that may as well have been in response to MLID or some YT shoutyhead. Like, whoosh.

So, anyone here tried running Ollama?
You aren't paying the same price if you're buying clusters surely? I would have thought a 5080 would have skewed more towards gaming / gaming adjacent. Aren't there better / cheaper / different options for running / training LLMs depending on your use cases? Was / is Snowden in to mining?

3k can for a stupid 5090. I'm sorry, but that's egregious. If we keep increasing price for performance, a 10090 will be 10k. That's not sustainable.

Since it hasn't supposedly been that long since they ramped, one can expect supply to improve in the coming months. Launch itself was a disaster in terms of numbers though so scalper prices now and in the near future should be terrible.

That's for the FE without tax, good luck finding one. Most AIB's including tax are in the 4k range.

They didn't cancel pre-orders, they cancelled the money hold and are instead moving to a waitlist system where you pay once they have the card ready to send out.

They probably are overpriced (especially now), but look at the performance when using something like multi frame generation on the 5080. Does that also call the 16GB VRAM issue into question?

100 percent a zero Canadian launch. Never seen it this bad. I actually got a 3080 on launch day 4+ years ago. Last card I'll probably ever buy from Nvidia new if they don't change.

Honda is also famous for limiting quantities to keep prices up.

I went to a dealer to buy a 6 month old Honda Civic Hybrid with 10k on it already. Found out the price was $500 off the new one. They argued with me when I was shocked and called them out on it. They then brought up online prices showing theirs was the cheapest in Canada and that "you have to get on a waitlist to buy one at the Honda dealer".

I laughed my ass off at them and left. Bought one from a dealer after a 1 week wait for $1000 less.

Don't let the "online prices" and "out of stock" BS affect you. It is all intentional. It also raises the new vehicle price as well as keeps used prices very high.

And they're currently selling every single 5090 and 5080 they can produce worldwide.

Laughing at everyone.

He's partly right that more memory is always better, and generally speaking, Nvidia can do that for most, if not all, of their cards, especially with their absurd pricing! But he's obviously forgetting they're in the business of making money first :slap:

I do. If not for Nvidia id be playing cyberpunk at 10 fps cause nobody can get to that level of rt performance.

there is no way you are a real person

The exact same way 7xxx users bragged about VRAM and mocked everything under it on the green side?

Yeah I can see that.

VRAM doesn't bother me like it does you.

I do not care what you have in your tower.

If you love it so much go play a game and quit whining about everything in every thread.

This so overflowing with irony, its amazing.
The original statement was "And still, TPU will have a 5xxx owners thread and umpteen post of OC's and benchies."
A statement refering to the sad state of affairs where Nvidia makes a lackluster product but sells it for top-end prices, this is objectively backed up by just about any reviewer under the sun, and yet people still will line up to buy it.

so its a (indoctrinated) consumer vs the corporation state of afairs statement.

and yet YOU make it into a fanboy argument of Nvidia vs AMD (about Vram even though Vram limitation have also being lauded by the press as an issue in the near future making generations of cards quick e-waste).

And then go on to say YOU do not care?

again, absolutely amazing.

If you need a card (cause you have say a 3060 or 2060 or whatever) you need a card, period. Doesn't matter how generationally lackluster the new gpus are, you still need a card. So you are going to buy what's best for the money. That's why nvidia sells, not necessarily because it makes good cards every generation, but because it makes better cards than everyone else.
