"The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy says that the best drink in existence is the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. It says that the effect of drinking a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster is like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 OC Dhahab Edition."

It’s actually not THAT tasteless. Don’t get me wrong, not my cup of tea, but at least it’s not ostentatiously glossy gold and chrome. This real, slightly faded gold and turquoise combination is reminiscent of the Ancient Egypt stylistic which isn’t the worst thing in the world. Is it still tacky? Sure. But, genuinely, not significantly more so than almost all of the other GPU designs out there. What, we are going to pretend that the regular black and red angular “xxx666xxxSatan1cxxxGamingOCTurbo” aesthetic is any more tasteful? Please. Anyone who wants an actually reasonably aesthetically pleasing piece of industrial design should just grab the FE.
Don't compare tasteless product A to tasteless product B, please.

I will because there is no point in not doing so. The PC enthusiast/gamer market had a problem with industrial design and aesthetics for ages now - we have come from the utilitarian “PCB, chips and heatsinks” straight into the nonsense we had for the last decade and a half. It’s just what it is. At this point, saying “X PC part looks tacky” is like confirming that the sky is blue and the Pope is catholic. We are desensitized to it, unless some true abomination pops out like that sneaker PC.

Kinda comes off as a moral judgment given the use of the word "tasteless".
Tasteless = excessive in an aesthetically unpleasant way, designed only to show off the owner's (real or imagined) financial status. This is how I interpret the word. It doesn't sound moral to me, but if it does to you, that's your choice.

Personally, I don't like "gamery" things just as much as I don't like this card, either. Both are too much, just in a different way.

You know that Nvidia and it's AIBs are disrespecting its loyal customers by putting CEO signatures and pictures on everything as well as treating these circuit boards FFS as luxury items to be embossed in symbolic valuables. Apple and some of its value added partners tried the same thing with luxury smartwatches and blinged out smartphones. Total disrespect by taking such advantage of cult mentality.

You know about world going to shit is when a crappy video card has become an luxury item made for people with more money than common sense.
I wouldn't pay 3000$ for a watch, which keeps it's value forever if maintained, compared to a garbage product that is done after less than 3 years....
I use them for work. These are work cards. If you are gaming on them than LOL you are the fool. I got my 2 5090s for home lab, I don't have a problem sourcing them at work.

Not sure what the hate is, this design actually looks nice.

Too bad about the price and over-engineered (and over-sized) HSF and shroud though.

I'm actually not surprised; given that Saudi Arabia has pledged serious money (about $38B in a 2024 report) into investing into gaming; including either buying up studios and IP and churning out more games, or joint projects with various studios to get more Middle East-made or inspired games out there. This is probably building on the growing number of interested Saudi gamers as well as Saudi's push into the gaming, anime, and tech industries.

This colour combination reminded me of "Dubai chocolate" with knafeh and pistachio which went viral around here not long ago, apparently with a bit of a delay from the rest of the world. It went so far that it entered public debate as "younger generations aren't really poor, they just don't have any financial responsibility", when people grabbed every available piece of small chocolates that cost several ten euros.

Dang, you made me hungry.

I can't say I disagree with that statement.

Yeah, but point of the article was how little the income of young generation has risen, compared to how much inflation and rise of living cost we had - in recent decades, not just the recent inflation. Younger people now own much less than their ancestors, they don't buy apartments or homes or even cars, more and more of them aren't moving out from their parents' homes... Buying unnecessary luxury items that influencers convince them they must have is more a sign of depression than the root cause of their position.

That chocolate really screwed the economy!

I can't say I disagree with that, either. I've already given up on ever owning a home myself.
