Recent reports indicate that evaluation samples of AMD's Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D processors have circulated to global press and influencer outlets. Leaks are expected to trickle out, going all the way up to a rumored March 11 lifting of review embargoes. Late last week, we reported on a double NDA-busting test system; utilizing Team Red's upcoming 16-core 3D V-Cache-equipped flagship gaming CPU, and a Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU. HXL (aka 9550pro) unearthed another example—their weekend sleuthing activities pointed to an alleged ASUS Silicon Prediction (SP) rating of 120. This tally was (reportedly) produced by a Ryzen 9 9950X3D sample unit. The predictive rating system sniffs out a candidate processor's quality and overclock potential.

An off-screen capture of an unidentified tester's UEFI BIOS session was posted to social media—the "MBEC-X870-0130" identifier points to a non-specific X870-based ASUS motherboard model. Leaked diagnostic information clearly shows a "Ryzen 9 9950X3D" processor (base clock 4.3 GHz) powering this particular test build. Its 120 ASUS SP score was cross-referenced with tallies shared by owners of Ryzen 7 9800X3D processors. As observed by VideoCardz, various examples of AMD's reigning gaming champion scored within the typical range of 113 to 118. The upcoming 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 12-core 9900X3D parts are predicted to offer only mild benefits (in gaming environs) over their 8-core sibling; so any sign of superiority will be celebrated as a victory.

Myeah whatever. 7800X3D will be sufficient for at least half a decade going forward.

I know this is the next high-powered AM5 processor from AMD. Is there anything else via AMD that is AM5-supported but will trump this kind of offer?

I think I've said this elsewhere, but bares repeating: As long as the 3D cache is balanced between both CCX's, this will be a good thing.

Likely Crosshair X870E Hero, by the BIOS version. 1103 was the latest beta and 1104 just got released. Also I need to remind folks who don't buy ROG motherboards: SP ratings are individual to every single unique processor and are not comparable even across similar models, only other CPUs of the exact same kind amongst themselves. The scale of SP rating on an i9-14900K is different from an i9-13900KS, despite both being effectively identical CPUs. Differences in scale also between K, KF and KS exist, and it's more than likely the same applies to these Ryzen models. So the SP rating of a 9900X is likely not going to mean anything for a 9900X3D, and vice versa.

This reading is also not available on ROG Strix branded motherboards, it's just Maximus and Crosshair that support it.

Well Zen6 finally moves us to 12-core CCDs for the first real core-count increase in 8 years.

So investing in the very end of 8-core CCDs seems like a bad idea; Sure, if you can use more than 8 cores then go ahead, but games hate running on two separate CCDs so you're better off just getting a 9800X3D.

Mmm, must be new to AMD I guess. Intel boards don't support it as far as I know
Not sure, it’s my first AM5 board :D

This is exactly why I waited. They were like yeah it will be the same as the 9800X3D and I'm like how if its clocked faster? I don't care if its 2 frames, I want it. Lets go!

Imagine if there were new GPUs to pair with it, but Nvidia's sheer incompetence can't get MSRP graphics cards to market.

I can't even begin to imagine the absurd street price a 9950X3D is going to demand in stores.
At launch sure but prices will drop quickly, most people are interested in the 9800x 3d. The 9950x 3d will become the "value" king 6 months after launch (I hope :p ). Im very interested in one but it's a bummer that I need a new cooler, my u12a has 0 chance of handling these chips.

But they can.. They just don't want too. Every $ it sells above MSRP is more profit.

Um, sure they do.
They'll be fine. You might have to adjust your fan profile a bit, but that cooler will do the job well.
