Montage Technology Delivers I/O Expansion Solution for New-Generation CPU Platforms

Montage Technology today announced the mass production of its I/O expansion device for the new-generation CPU platforms—the I/O Hub (IOH) chip M88IO3020. This product is specifically designed for Intel's Birch Stream platform, aiming to provide a highly integrated and flexible I/O expansion solution for applications such as cloud computing, big data, and enterprise storage.

Montage's IOH chip establishes connectivity with Intel's latest Granite Rapids processors via the PCIe bus, achieving a maximum bandwidth of 64 Gbps. The chip features configurable high-speed interfaces including PCIe, SATA, and USB to meet diverse application requirements.



Key technical specifications include:
  • 4 integrated PCIe controllers, delivering up to 20 PCIe lanes operating at 8 GT/s, supporting flexible port configurations (x1/x2/x4/x8) with maximum 14 configurable ports
  • 3 integrated SATA controllers, supporting up to 20 SATA ports operating at 6 Gb/s, with comprehensive support for both AHCI and RAID 0/1/5/10 modes
  • One integrated xHCI USB controller, providing up to 10 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports plus 14 USB 2.0 ports

Additionally, the IOH chip requires just 4 or 8 PCIe lanes to establish full CPU communication, significantly reducing the PCB footprint. The product demonstrates excellent compatibility with downstream devices while delivering highly adaptable and cost-effective I/O expansion capabilities. It features proven RAS characteristics and has secured its position on Intel's approved supplier list for the Birch Stream platform ecosystem.

Availability
The M88IO3020 I/O Hub has entered mass production and is now available for volume orders.

I see no reason other than maybe on the firmware side, why this couldn't work with AMD.
