They're already distinct: 2 9070s, 2 9070xts, and OC vs not. The additional names mean nothing really. MAYBE taichi is fine, as it's their flagship name. But you'll never hear someone say "yeah I got the asrock 9070xt steel legend" they'd just say "i have the asrock 9070xt".

So not buying ASRock and Sapphire anymore. Using 12V2x6 connector for 300W card does NOT mean it can't melt. Go see melted connectors on RTX 4080 and 5080.

If I ever go for RX 9070 XT, I might choose PowerColor that time.

It depends on if all the pins for the connector are shunted together like on the vast majority of RTX 4000/5000. RTX 3000 cards that used 12VHPWR had them grouped in pairs. As far as I can remember there weren't issues with melted RTX 3000 cards.

While insanely expensive, the Astral 5090 is an example of how things can be done differently. ASUS even has that card setup for sensing amperage draw per pin on the connector.

Astral has sensing but not regulating. At least RTX3000 had per-pin pair power regulator which was good, plus didn’t push 600W.

If these AMD cards follow the same as 3000 then ok. If not, then I wouldn’t buy one.

The 3080/3090 has 3 different rails, each to one pair of pins and can regulate what can be drawn by each pair.



Astral has per pin sensing but at the end only 1 rail of all the power.

Different market levels, keep in mind, Sapphire Radeon 290X, Sapphire Radeon 290X Toxic, Sapphire Radeon 290X VaporX. All use the same chip but the pcb/components and cooling are different between all 3.

Also the SKU, pcb p/n are all different, its why bios are addressed by Device ID and Subsystem ID.

Did you complain about Asus having the Dual, TUF and ROG Strix RTX 4060-4090? If not put some oven mits on.
