Despite of widespread critics among certain groups of end-users, Microsoft Windows Vista operating system (OS) captured additional part of the market in October, whereas other operating systems from Microsoft reduced their installed base. At the same time, platforms from Apple reduced the shares of the market they command. In September the share of Windows Vista-based personal computers used to browse the Internet was close to 8%, 7.91% to be precise, up insignificantly, according to data collected by Net Applications, a provider of Web tools. The shares of Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems decreased to 3.16% and 79.07%. The share of systems based on Mac OS decreased to 6.55% in October, down from 6.61% a month before. Other operating systems, namely outdated Windows versions, Linux OSes and so on, which have been losing market share for many months now, are now used in 3.31% of devices that are browsing online.

Is it me or do these numbers sound made up or intentionally inaccurate? Well, not the numbers really, but the way they say everything else is losing market share. It all sounds funny (and wrong).

Even if those numbers are right, still  at the rate Vista is being "adopted", by the time it nears anything close to what XP currently has, the new OS installment from MS would of been released already lol.

Oh, wow -- I'm sure it's just so hard to "gain market share" with an OS that's installed by default on just about any pre-made computer anywhere...

agreed. your not gaining anything through choice - its happened because nearly all new laptops and PC have vista on them!

Seriously. And before anyone says it, I'm pretty sure it's not like most OEM's have a choice -- they more than likely signed long-term pricing contracts years ago that require them to install Windows on their pre-built computers for bloody decades to come (or suffer price increases from Microsoft).

I don't know how many people put XP back on, but I know some, and I know those can't be in their tallies.

I said the results sound funny b/c that would mean that new PCs with vista would have to substantially outsell new boxes with linux/mac or people installing linux over windows (yeah, yeah you say it's not a lot). Just b/c people visited on vista (dual boot where it's not their main OS or the literal tons of people who tried it, then deleted that shit) does not mean it's installed as the OS of choice.

I think it's another spin for M$ or just a simple sample.

Of course I don't know the exact methods of the test so I may be completely wrong, but I'm still not buying it haha (double meaning lol).

Hmm, it might indeed take another 1.5-2.5 years for Vista to get to 25%.

A bit sad, but at least DX10 might be postponed a bit and might give the developers quite much more time to... ''optimize'' it.

Vista for 2007 so far has only 4.17% of the market that other figure is quarterly gains. That's why they numbers don't jive right. However, if you look at win2k it holds 4.09% of the market. Therefore, Vista only holds a whopping .08% lead over win2k .. The people have spoken! The PEOPLE-> :slap: <-Vista.
