Despite some minor complaints about in-game performance and optimization, it's plain to see that Monster Hunter Wilds has been a successful launch for Capcom, but it has now been confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds is topping both sales charts for February and 2025 so far. This is according to a report by Circana (via VG247), which claims that Monster Hunter Wilds managed to secure the top spot in February's and game sales across all the platforms where it is available, at least for the US market. Given the game series's popularity in Asia, it's likely a similar story played out there. SteamDB's data indicates that Monster Hunter Wilds has sold between 4.47 million and 5.96 million copies on Steam alone, with the peak concurrent player count reaching a whopping 1,384 608 players. Still, Wilds is currently in eighth position on the Steam Charts top sellers list or fourth if you consider the year to date. Previously, Monster Hunter Wilds also managed to surpass 8 million copies sold in just 3 days after release. All that said, these records are unlikely to last, since 2025 is stacking up to be a monumental year for gaming.

Both GTA VI and Borderlands 4 are slated for launch later this year, and while Borderlands 4 itself is hotly anticipated, GTA VI's announcement trailer broke YouTube's view records in the first 24 hours when it was first published. Since then, GTA VI's trailer has attracted 245 million views on YouTube. While GTA VI is slated to launch sometime in late 2025, it will be a console exclusive, meaning Monster Hunter Wilds and Borderlands 4 will likely be some of the biggest franchise launches for Steam this year. GTA VI has been rumored to be launching on PC in early 2026, although it's unclear if it will be launched to Steam at that time. Ubisoft also just launched Assassin's Creed Shadows to a somewhat mixed reception. While it remains to be seen how sales play out for Shadows, it is currently second on the top sellers chart on SteamDB.

This game already won the award for the most unoptimized game of the year LOL.

I bet the majority of player base are from Japan...

Yeah, I bought it and I haven't even played it yet (beyond the beta).

I've been really put off by the fact all the veterans say it's pretty easy (if you know the formula), which I was afraid of but am not incredibly surprised to hear given this series has become about accessibility/sales.

I want to be self-righteous, but really can't, as doing that has (mostly through MH World) almost-certainly saved Capcom as we know it...It makes sense they would want that success to continue.

From my past experience monster hunter used to be a Grindy game… but they have made it easier in the latest game

Yeah, the series is sorta that, though. Maybe you are looking for a part and hunting with a person that is trying to accomplish the mission for the first time, or vice-versa; that's part of the fun imo.

I knew from the moment of automagically acquired pieces of the monster from hits instead of having to risk a hit to pick up a rare targeted drop (before they disappear) that's what they were going for this time.

I don't like it, but I understand why they did it. There are other factors they simplified as well. I feel World was balanced pretty well between the old guard and new players; this tilted too far towards the latter.

I want those hunts where you don't get what you want; I want those fights where they are difficult by yourself and you need a decent team (even if randos, and even if certain randos fail the mission for everyone).

I don't think everything should be easily done solo, as the weird comradery in MH is a very special thing (communication through stamps, etc, regardless of language barrier). And having two weapons? WTF?
The whole point is nobody is supposed to be able to do everything; there are moments your choice helps and moments it doesn't (and is up to someone else to shine w/ theirs). Again, that's the whole point.

I don't think I'm alone, in this and other respects (like prep), but I also know the potential audience is bigger than people like me that prefer it that way. That said, it is a loss for people like me that liked that thing.

I also think people that are like me and prefer it that way have the potential to play the most hours, encouraging longevity for the game; helping continuous new players improve and continue their journey.

When it's like this, people are most-likely going to fall off rather quickly, imo, rather than continue playing, which does not inspire confidence for the sales legs (or long avg play hours) of something like World.

For now! If it's anything like their past entries the grind is going to be coming in the form of Master Rank updates.

Anyway, apart from the performance issues I'm pretty happy with the game, but it's taken a backburner for now to World until the title updates come out.

You mean the expansion? For now it's probably just high rank updates AFAIK? G (Master) is for the expansions.

I mean, yeah...that might be the plan. Hopefully. But that's a long way away. I also wonder how many people will hold out that long. With World it happened bc of instances I mentioned, less sure of that here.

Heck, you say you're still playing it (over this), and I can totally understand that.

Hopefully there are some cool (and difficult) quests that require some old-school random team jank I love so much. The unintentional stuff that is either awesome, frustrating, or frustrating but then awesome.
It sucks most people said they didn't even touch co-op. That truly is the best part (imo). Everything from weird riding messages to friendly stamps to (often Japanese) players executing some bananas techniques.
Or, you know, just helping people (and/or getting help). To me not doing that is to leave a big part of the enjoyment on the table. If it's not needed and/or people don't use it, that kind of sucks.

Always (kinda forcibly, through how the game works [not requiring voice chat]) friendly....and I kind of love it. Nothing like spamming that thumbs up and/or heart stamp after a good, if even grueling, hunt.
It's a bummer if that isn't encouraged here (as it very much was in World, but less-so in Rise imo).

Reached HR 200 with FrameGen on a 3080 (DLSS to FSR mod). It was actually quite acceptable with input lag ranging from 50ms to 60ms. Preset High 3440x1440, with DLSS 4 swapped in. It was pretty consistent getting around 80 - 100 fps (max refresh of my monitor)

It adds AMD FSR 3 Frame Generation to games by replacing Nvidia DLSS Frame Generation. This way, you can select "Enable DLSS4 Frame Generation" in the options on DLSS4 FrameGen games even if you are on a 30 series.

I use the universal dll version for everything

Bought and played this game after more than 15 years last entries played Tri on Wii.
I agree game could be more polished, but on bright side they made it casual and enjoyable, I don't need more chores after my 60hrs long / week job :D
