Hello everyone, we shared with you—earlier this month—that we wanted to tell you more about the status of our team and our future; so what better opportunity to do so as a celebration of Metro's 15th anniversary. In honor of the incredible 15 years of Metro, we've created a video to celebrate our journey throughout the tunnels of the metro system, made possible by our devoted community—always supporting us along the way. This is our thanks to you, the players.

Metro turns 15
The legacy and success of Metro over the past decade and a half is something we at 4A Games are incredibly proud of. It actually started 20 years ago when 4A Games was founded, and inspired by Dmitry Glukhovsky's then online novel, we began to work on our inaugural title of the same name, Metro 2033. Our partnership has continued, and he is working with us on our next Metro title, but more on that later. Many of the development team here at 4A Games have seen Metro evolve over the past 15 years. It is amazing to see the advancement from the pages of a novel, into a fully-realized game, through ever-improving sequels, and now into a global franchise with millions of players. We have loved being able to grow and foster an incredible community which has gone from strength to strength along with us. What we are achieving now was a far distant dream all those many years ago, and we are lucky to have so many dedicated, talented developers who are as passionate about the series as you, the players.

Throughout this year, there will be events, deals and celebratory content on the Metro social media channels, to thank you, our players for coming on the journey so far with us. We encourage you to share your favorite Metro memories with Metro 15—we can't wait to see what your favorite moments over the years have been, it's inspiring and an honor to know that you are celebrating with us.

Studio
Alongside the evolution of Metro, our studio has also been on a journey from releasing our first game with a 60-person team in 2010, to now 200+ across two locations—from Kyiv, where 150 of our development team are based, to our headquarters in Sliema, Malta, following our expansion in 2014—with two triple-A projects in development. The next Metro of course, and a brand-new unannounced IP. Using everything we have learned over the past 20 years we are pushing our ambitions even higher than ever before.

Speaking to our heritage, we at 4A Games are incredibly proud of our involvement in the growth of the Ukrainian development community through the evolution of the Metro series and our colleagues' involvement in the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R game. A once small video games development scene, is now a thriving one, putting incredible entertainment IP on the map. We do want to reassure you that work is continuing on both of our projects despite missile strikes, air-raid sirens, and terror still raining down on Ukraine. These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible, and we want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title, it will be ready when it is ready, and we can't wait for you to see it.

The next Metro
As we said in our last studio update—in 2022—a full-scale Russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important. As conflict, the struggle for power, the horrors of tyranny, and the price of freedom have become part of our lives over the past 3+ years, we are still living and working during this wartime, and that inevitably shapes the games we make. Metro has always had a hard-hitting, political, anti-war and often emotional story—and you can be sure these themes will continue, thanks to our ongoing collaboration with franchise creator, author, and activist Dmitry Glukhovsky.

Dmitry has always spoken out against the war in Ukraine from the start—a courageous decision for any Russian, that has seen him sentenced to jail (in absentia)—and we are proud to have him as a friend and co-creator as we tell this next and even more relevant chapter of Metro together.

Rest assured, you are in for quite the ride. To our community, thank you for your words of support, your patience and your excitement over what is to come. We are grateful to have you, and rest assured, despite the challenges we face, we will overcome them as we have all others before.

I still won't forget how they canceled the launch of Metro exodus on steam two weeks before it's launch to make it an EGS exclusive. I don't think ive touched a metro game after that

They could update their PhysX to 64-bit. As a "celebration" perhaps add in RTX in first two games. :D

That was pretty upsetting.. I'm sure Epic offered them a lot of money for that. It wasn't available on Steam for another YEAR. I still got it once it came to Steam though.. I love the games too much to care about them being sell-outs lol.
