Hi everyone, I'm Julius Fondem, Community Manager here at Remedy Entertainment. Today I'm very excited, jazzed even, to talk to you about a brand-new feature in our upcoming game FBC: Firebreak—Altered Augments. If you're not familiar with FBC: Firebreak, it's a cooperative first-person shooter for three players set within a mysterious federal agency under assault by extradimensional forces, in the iconic Control universe. Battle through hordes of otherworldly monsters with up to two friends, customize your gear and level up as you fight back against this ever-growing threat.

This being our first multiplayer, we're very excited to bring it to you, the community, and to that end, we've designed FBC: Firebreak to be as easy as possible to get into. This is a game best played together with your friends, having a great time laughing while chaotic and wacky things happen! This isn't a new hobby that you need to log onto every day for rewards. None of that FOMO stuff here. Just get together with your friends over the weekend for a good time.

As a Firebreaker, you are a badass combat engineer who descends deep into The Oldest House to solve paranatural crises, and to achieve this, you are given an assortment of normal and, well, not so normal tools by The Federal Bureau of Control. These come in the form of three bespoke Crisis Kits, each containing a unique Tool like the Crank-Operated Fluidic Ejector, an improvised device like the BOOMbox, and an Altered Augment.

Altered Augments are Altered Items that the Federal Bureau of Control has contained and harnessed for approved use by the Firebreak Initiative. So basically, the Federal Bureau of Control is in deep trouble and decided to make weapons out of paranatural objects they barely understand and gave them to their brave first responders. Surely, nothing can go wrong. Each Altered Augment possesses unique abilities and is the pinnacle of each Crisis Kit's repertoire. Let me introduce you to our Altered Augments!

The Garden Gnome (AI9) is a regular looking garden gnome that is all but normal. You can attach the Garden Gnome to the Electro-Kinetic Charge Impactor which allows you to fire it towards your enemies. Once it lands, it will summon a lightning storm around it, damaging and stunning all creatures in its area and draining all energy from surrounding batteries. However, be careful! The Garden Gnome walks around and doesn't discern friend from foe. Unless you want to play a teeny tiny prank on your crewmates. In that case, no need to be careful.

The Piggy Bank (AI16) attaches to the end of the Wrench, and when you swing your Wrench around, it deals massive damage in a large arc in front of you and shatters, releasing a paranatural coin tornado that damages all creatures in it, but don't worry, the Piggy Bank reassembles itself back together after the tornado makes its way back to you! Just be sure to not hit your friends with the tornado as getting hit by a multitude of coins in the face is considered rude in some cultures.

The Teapot (AI44) attaches to the top of the Crank-Operated Fluidic Ejector (COFE) giving it the ability to shoot boiling water at enemies. When the Teapot is attached to the COFE, the tool deals the burning condition and cannot overheat. Do note that this also means that the COFE now damages teammates and cannot clear any other conditions from them except the cold condition. Lastly, the Teapot does not actually come with any real tea. Sorry, tea lovers.

We've been hard at work on FBC: Firebreak with our 50-person strong development team and can't wait to show you more of the game and get it in your hands! FBC: Firebreak is slated for release this summer, and we've got plenty more to share with you before then.

FBC: Firebreak is scheduled to release in Summer 2025 for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Wishlist now!

Agh I love Remedy but this whole game seems a little too outside their wheelhouse.

Sort of smacks a bit of ye olde "hello fellow children" ZANINESS and ANTICS and WHACKY gen-z shooter.

I wish the game success but something deep in my guts says this has flop written all over it.

So its the interative game set in the control universe, or specifically the Bureau of Control.

Seems like the true KF sequel, though im never a fan of humor in these type of games, of course players farting around is fine but the tone...I rather have it be a bit more serious.

That said, looks good, might try it.

Okay, but what if you don't have friends?

KF1 and L4D is where I made most of my online friends yo, go in a lobby, play with randos and you will get some :)

Might be an epic store exclusive

Remedy's name equals mystical stories with a twisted narrative for me. An online shooter isn't exactly what I would ever expect from them. Quite a shame to make this instead of Control 2 in my opinion.

OG KF was pretty damn good. KF2 just didnt really hit the same. Original KF has some pretty subtle humor to it but KF2 is too clowny compared to the atmosphere of the OG.

Yeah this is definitely a bit out of left field but I wouldn't worry too much. This seems a bit like a "Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon" release than a full-blown entry into the series, more than likely a fun side project for the Remedy team to re-use some assets. Honestly this just reassures me that Remedy is still invested in the Control series.

While it's a surprise they are branching out to a multiplayer only game, but I am willing to give them a chance because of their track record.

Well, I'm going to disagree with everyone in this thread and say I'm pretty excited to try this out!

I don't care if it's perfect, it's free on PS+. If it's too Duke Nukemy, well, it was still free on PS+. If it's rad, all the better. Tangent perhaps, but I appreciate Sony's stepping up their game a little.
We actually got decent titles this month, and with one like this on the horizon, perhaps they truly are putting a little bit more money into it (akin to Game Pass).

I'm pretty ashamed to say I haven't followed Remedy's titles as closely as I wish I had, and this might be my way in, given I am all about (good) co-op shooters. I respect that it's not for everyone.

I'm sure this game will be good for people who like online shooters and aren't much into classic Remedy games yet.

I, on the other hand love Remedy games for their stories and their unique way of telling them. I have no interest in an online shooter, even if it comes from Remedy, so I'll pass (or maybe just try it if it's free, but with no serious intentions).

It's kind of a similar situation as Disney is in with their interpretation of Star Wars. You can't bring new fans in without losing the old ones.

I have nothing against how Remedy's games' play, and am quite sure I would love their thinking/way of story-telling, I just never got around to them (but I really should have, as I feel I would likely love them).
Hence, this might pull me in and kickstart the will to go through Ctrl/AW2; which if I had to guess is probably the goal (to attract people like myself) while keeping some of their staff working on something.
Likely paid for by selling it to the subscription services; which I have nothing against and think is actually a decent model (given we'll get their next big title eventually and perhaps partially bc of $ from stuff like this.)

I don't think this is like SW at all; you don't HAVE to play it and will still likely enjoy the next Control (and/or whatever else they make in the same universe). Star Wars is arguably permanently damaged.
Surely at most is will end up being an Easter egg reference or something; likely remedied by a quick synopsis/run-down on Youtube (which I've stayed away from for their other stuff as I actually want to play them.)
