Thanks to a price cut and Black Friday, the Sony PlayStation3 is finally doing quite well for itself. During week of the famous American spending-spree day known as "Black Friday", PlayStation3 sales increased by 245%, and the previously mentioned factors bumped up the PS3 sales to the total figures of 298%. During Black Friday, the rest of Sony's consoles got their own time in the spotlight: PSP sales increased 136%, and PS2 sales were up by 287%. Gamespot estimates that Sony sold nearly 321,000 PS3s on Black Friday alone. If these figures are accurate, November may be Sony's most successful month this year.

with possibly a lower margin. its not all about shifting units as fast as you can. if you sell some unit at a ridiculous price then you may as well.

It is when you have a high attachment rate per console just to break even!

Sony has to sell several games with just one PS3 just to break even like M$, Ninty on the other hand makes a profit on their Wii's with a zero attachment rate!

I don't care if the Wii is more profitable... I think that console is a piece of junk kid's toy.

It has its market though and apparently you are not in that market.

So stop with the bashing of other consoles:slap:

If you don't think this is worth 400$ something is wrong:

Game console
Wireless Internet
40gb hardrive
Blu Ray
PS1 backwards compatibility
Spiderman 3 blu ray
1 controller (siraxis, feature that is very similar to Wii controllers)
Internet browser
ability to install OS

You mentioned Blu Ray twice mate,
Also it goes without saying that this is a game console :laugh:
and PS1 backwards compatibility isnt much to brag about
especially considering the fact that you can't natively put in a PS1 CD game and expect it to play.

You have to download it from Sony Marketplace first and even then only a small percentage of them are currently set for download and no Im not wrong about that.

And I thought that they axed the wireless internet version of the PS3 a long time ago? When did it come back can you please give me a link to that please?:ohwell::ohwell:

The only thing I see it worth spending $50 extra versus a 360 would be 40 GB and an Internet browser. Blu Ray doesnt interest me at all in the least bit and the 360 also comes with a controller as well lol:laugh:
I also have no need to install an OS on it. Theres no real benefit other than saving space in your house to using this except for maybe something to do with F@H though you can do that without an OS on there.

Not trying to argue with you just stating that its funny the way you stated that my friend

I didn't mention Blu-Ray twice, I said Spiderman 3 blu-ray, meaning the dvd is in blu-ray format.

PS1 backwards compatibility is awesome for me. I have tons of PS1 games, now I don't have to have my PS1 and PS2 and PS3.

Wireless internet for Xbox 360 will run you 99.99$
The HD-dvd will run you 179.99$

I mean, if you're that big of a Halo xbox is for you.

So I guess the $400 version does not come with Wireless then does it?

Of course I know its $99 for the OFFICIAL MICROSOFT APPROVED WIRELESS CONTROLLER but thats not the case for me, my lappy already has built in wireless inside it and all I had to do was buy a 14 foot cat 6' cable from CompUSA for about 20 to 30 dollars. Im still technically wireless from my main modem:laugh::laugh:.

I don't care if the Blu-Ray in the player seems like the better deal its not. Im not going to get in an argument about whether HD DVD or Blu Ray is better with you or anyone else right now. All im going to say is that I like being able to make legitimate copies of my HD DVD movies with ease over to my lappys harddrive

and im saying about Spiderman you could have put Blu ray on the same line as the blu ray player (i.e.: IT has a Blu ray player inside it that can Play Spiderman 3 in HD beuty)

$400 doesnt buy you PS1 and PS2 compatibility.

I cant remember exactly but this is a guestimate that each PS1 game for download runs you about $5 each in the Sony Marketplace

Peace out:rockout::rockout:

No the 40gb has wireless.

I don't really care about blu-ray either, because my tv can only handle 480i. Thing is I may not care for it, but that doesn't mean I don't like having it and it's also a good investment for the future.

Link please for the wireless!

And your wrong about Blu Ray being a good investment.

Both Blu Ray and HD DVD will be an UNKNOWN investment until one format wins out. Right now when you get an HD DVD player for $99 your investing in a good DVD to HD upscaler if your still not going to pick sides for this format war.

OK OK IM DONE I GOTTA GET READY FOR MY NIGHT CLASS ANYWAYS

They should have done whats done with computer parts. Sell a small quantity cheap to hype it up even more and make it desirable, then when the next batch comes around jack up the price. It hasn't failed the video card companies :p

this is turning into a PS3 bashing thread...go figure. i was apprehensive when i first bought the ps3 last week, but now i love it. it takes some getting used to. i had to spend some time adjusting the 5.1 DTS settings and i had a bit of a conflict with the ps3 hijacking my wireless router. all is well now. i have the 80 gig version, so plenty of space. i also plan on installing linux on it and running a bluetooth mouse/keyboard for it. not to mention it is a top notch blu-ray player! all for 500 bucks. the PS3 truly is the superior console in terms of hardware and it will be for games when next year a bunch of top titles come out (grand theft auto and gran turismo). drakes fortune is out and that game is incredible. think of tomb raider X 10 !! anyway, im not surprised sales of the ps3 are picking up. and now i dont have to worry about upgrading to a new CPU or GPU every year just to play the best games at the best settings! this will last me for 5 years. in the end it is worth every cent. i

OK OK I lament to the PS3 having wireless internet, its just that I hadnt heard any such thing about that being there and considering that this was another downgrade of the PS3 just like what the 20GB version was then you can't blame me for assuming they cut it to save money and components considering this is even cheaper than what the 20GB was during its EXTREMELY SHORT lifespan.

Now how is Blu Ray a good investment for the future if its movie studios that side with it end up losing this format war, then what? All Blu Ray will be used for is for games since HD DVD will be less expensive to purchase on a blank disc than Blu Ray discs and the fact that no matter how much I or anyone else has lambasted this it now has the upper hand with a 51 GB three layer HD DVD disc for enthusiasts with massive storage needs to use.

OK OK im done for real this time I don't care if anyone beleives me or not I only say what I have known or thought to be the truth. Thank you and sorry if I turned this into a PS3 bashing thread guys I didn't mean to at all. I respect the PS3 even if I don't plan to buy one anytime soon if at all. Have fun when Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots comes out

I saw at least 38 people coming out of Sams Club, Walmart, Target, BestBuy and Costco with PS3 bundles. Most of them were buying LCD and PLasma HDTVs as well.
