Microsoft Claims Xbox 360 Outsold PS3 2:1 on Black Friday Week; Sony Denies Claim

According to Microsoft, Microsoft sold roughly 310,000 Xbox 360's during Black Friday week. If true, these figures would make Black Friday week nearly as successful as the Halo 3 launch week, as far as console sales go. While Microsoft did not bother to contest the Nintendo Wii sale supremacy (about 350,000 units), they proudly boasted to Next-Gen that they had outsold the PS3 2-1, citing unknown retail estimates. Sony was very quick to respond to the sales figures Microsoft boasted. While the sales figures were not unreasonable (Microsoft claimed Sony sold 155,000 PS3's during Black Friday week, and Sony confirmed selling 121,000 PS3's during the month of October), Sony alleged that the Black Friday figures were falsified and/or exaggerated. In fact, the Sony representative claimed that any sales figures are premature: the NPD does not release sales figures for November until December 13th. Sony does not dispute that the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 on Black Friday week, however.

Of course they outsold the PS3, everyone used it as the time to buy new ones since the old ones failed.

/sarcasm

but not 100% LOL (just the sad truth of M$'s blunder, yet ppl continue to buy that POS?)

Only ones bought in the first year really break down the even newer ones with HDMI, uber cooling, silent DVD drives and smaller chips shouldn't break down at least for a few years.

Mines from December 2006 and hasnt broken down but it heats up but i think its because its in a cabinet although i make sure the doors are open and some space between the back and the fans. Really i should get somewhere else to place my 360.

Nice to see people like the 360 enuf to buy a new one tho, although they can obv get it sent away and repaired for free now.

Nothing beats pc gaming tho, although some games i prefer on the 360 like Rainbow 6. Really depends on individual game and exclusivity.

The problem, though, is that the new 3 yr warranty is limited. It only covers the RROD. So, if your 360 is over a yr old and the DVD drive dies, etc (which is of course very common) you're SOL.

You would think, with the high costs of a 3-year warranty for a very common problem, Microsoft would be doing everything possible to fix the issue. So far, the fixes have just been band-aids. (Epoxying the cpu/gpu, extended heatsinks). 65nm is a good step towards reliable units, but they aren't very widespread AFAIK.

They do care about the customers but they also care about money as well. personally I think that they are so worked up about how "We are finally going to see the xbox division finally make a profit come Summer 2008" that they really arent giving their customers enough attention, just my opinion but you could see what that would mean come September 2008 Microsoft will announce a new warranty for any users with a disc drive error. IMO if someone wants to have a 360 without any problems just go out and buy the Halo 3 Limited Edition console, its worth its money in gold because every single one of them comes with 65 Nm process as well as the quieter disc drives to boot, Plus it comes with a free Play & charge kit. If you look around you might still find a few around in Best Buy their usually placed right next to the Halo 3 Legerndary helmet box rather thab next to the other 360's so you might still be in luck people.

I work at Gamestop and we have tons of Halo 3 edition X360s still in stock. It is our worst seller because it is ugly and costs $50 more than the premium without any real benefit. However as to your claim, yes the Halo editions offer the best opportunity to acquire the falcon chipset, but there's no guarantee. We have still had Halo 3 X360s come back to us and just for fun we shine a light inside the side with the cpu heatsink and can still see the heatpipe. Also, look around on the net, it is far from a guarantee.

Mine heats up quite a bit...but the main reason is because while I'm playing on the Xbox 360 for hours, a friend is playing Day of Defeat: Source and my comp is right next to my 360.

I found this response from Sony on the PS3 forums:

Sony is disputing Microsoft's statement about the ratio of Xbox 360 to PS3 sales. Here's what Kimberly Otzman, a Sony spokeswoman, said in an e-mail just now:

"It's (Sony Computer Entertainment America) policy not to disclose our unit sales numbers until NPD numbers are officially released which will be December 13th. However, I can assure you that Microsoft's estimates of our PS3 unit sales numbers are way off and they did not outsell PS3 2:1 during Black Friday week."

I'm sorry. I guess saying I work at Gamestop implied I've seen them with my own eyes.

Anyways, ya, I guess I did exaggerate it, but compared to the black/white, it is unappealing to the majority of the customers (ugly is their term that I was borrowing).
