Nintendo Cuts Wii Advertising

Nintendo has decided to pull some of its adverts for the Wii after finding that the Christmas demand for the console is already too high for the company to cope with. In the UK, Nintendo has decided to replace the planned advertising campaign for the Wii with more Nintendo DS adverts, saying:

We have been running the campaign all year round, but we want to take a responsible stance this Christmas and not fuel demand.

This news comes following numerous shortages of the console despite the fact that Nintendo has increased its production to 1.8 million units per month. Nintendo also commented that the adverts it was planning for the Christmas build-up are not seasonally themed, so it should be able to use them during the start of 2008 instead.

ive only seen 2 on the shelves ...and i bought 1 of them. and a woman camped there waiting for a clerk to unlock the other one.

never seen one and to increase DS ads is just as silly too as i spent all day today searching for a DS and theres none anywhere till after xmas, not even online.......

I knew the Wii would be popular, but I didn't think it would stay out of stock for the most part all this time. Nintendo is sitting pretty with their console.

wow so their making more money than ever before and their still not advertising it enough. They need to advertise the shizzle out of it in order to get anything going in terms of even more people seeing it. What they need to do is up the manufacturing process ASAP, until demand slows down (if ever) then if need be they can then shut down some of their manufacturing lanes if need be I mean it won't be that hard to do in all actuality.

Arguably, but consumers that don't visit tech sites like this might not hear this news, and they probably make a huge proportion of Nintendo's market.

In this revolutionary mindset, they should have stopped advertising shortly after the debut. Yanno, when they were out of stock perpetually... Maybe just toned it back a little bit, and advertised when they had some sort of demand that was slightly less than their supply...

No. If they were really trying to do that, they would just advertise "Nintendo" with some great subliminal slogan... rather than swap the pre-booked advertising space for DS.
