EVGA has released new BIOS's for all EVGA 8800GT's making some adjustments to the fanspeed autosensor. Basically the fanspeed ramps up quicker, and more gradually as the temperature increases. This update can lower the GPU operating temperature by about 10'C under load. All new EVGA shipping boards will have this change in place, while all users who have already purchased the cards will need to update their BIOS manually. Click here to access the BIOS download section and Windows XP/Vista step-by-step flash instructions.

Mine had that problem as well, I used RivaTuner's fan profiles to solve it on my own though.

too late

this is simply rediculous, I've seen reports of these card hitting 107 degrees Celsius. I just don't get how you can make such a brilliant chip but fail miserably at making an adequate cooling solution. it just makes me sick wtf! why would you pair 8800gt up with those POS fans?!? I'm sooh angry.

NVIDIA should have done this themselves.

WOW... some of these cards went over 100 celcius? I get worried when my video cards start hitting the 70's. It is good to see that they updated this in the bios... seems like both ATI and NVIDIA keep the fan settings far to low so that the card will run silently. I always use ATI Tool or Riva Tuner to keep my cards no higher then the 70's on load. I would rather have a loud fan then a dead video card. :)

I am still hoping that W1ZZARD will eventually add something to ATI Tool to force an emergency shutdown if the GPU gets above a set temperature.

The NVIDIA forceware does that for you if the card gets over a set temperature. For my card it is 150C. It runs at about 50c idle on a summer day.

lol i remember my GTX artifacting in gaming, so i checked the temps... 130C. (the power cable to my 120mm fan on the cooler had broken, cheap 7v adaptor)

shat myself, as my previous cards all ran at <60C

my GT i havent even checked the temps on, i should go have a poke with ATI tool and see what she loads at.

edit: 47C idle 70c load (10 min)

not bad for a 700/2000 stock card :D

only downer, is its kinda loud...

my card seems to do just fine, Idles around 53 load about 70C i think. I might do this bios upgrade anyway. I do have 5 120mm fans in my antec P180 though so airflow is never a problem(i'm gunna be swapping these for new fans soon, starting to get old and loud). and my CPU is on water, so the card is the only thing generating heat for me. If anything it probably makes my CPU run hotter. But it is definitely better than the 8800 GTS i had previously, my CPU cores ran in the 30+'s. Now with the 8800GT Core 1 is at 25C and Core 2 at 33C.

Lol, Nvidia rushes out the card, you people rush out to buy it and expect everything to be perfect! I agree it's Nvidia's fault, they rushed this card to market to fight the hd3xxx series. It's obvious they made a mistake with the cooling design since they now have changed it.

OH WOW! Somebody cares!!!! Yeah, I'm still complainin about my friends GT he bought shortly after it was released, nice fan speed at 40%--no matter what the temp. "Sure let them melt," Nvidia says "as long as they can't hear the fan/jet engine."

Who didn't see this coming raise their hands :) For me it seems more of less RMA for EVGA than we care about the customers. Yes they say that the fans are designed with the thermalspecs, but no way will a card going over 100C constantly last long.

Don't they have 10y warranty on all cards? Where as other manufactures only have to worry them lasting the year. Wasn't 10C lower temps something like twice the component life?

I forgot NVIDIA has that setting in forceware. But, if I remember correctly, you can't lower the value. I am not sure if the card would be saved if the temperature slowly climbed to 150 degrees because of a failing fan. ????? That just seems like a VERY high temperature... 150 celcius is like 300 Fahrenheit!!

My 8800GT never got above 82*C with the stock settings, but that is still too high for me. My 2900 only goes to around 75*C with the fan at stock.
