This is kind of unfortunate, i hope they release a simply amazing new technology. The geforce 10000 series might be out by the time amd releases the r700.

well it looks like i maybe building a new machine afterall, the CUrrent setup is giving me fits during OS install (BSOD), course it could be the BIOS, but who knows now. I was doing comparisons on Techpowerup on the 5000+ but if the 6400 is overclocking to 3.5 and possibly 3.6 its probably the better buy, but how is the 6000+?

the hd 3870 is a powerfull card it just dosnt hsve the programming to back it because the card is programmed bad its only as fast as the software dictates thats why the hd 3870 does so good in some games and bad in others.

IF AMD/ATi can get out a good programmed card with regular drivers at least once a month and has support for games and good crossfire then it could be a good card, i mean it beats nvidia in specs but it dosnt really work out that way in the real world.

ANYONE think that ATi is turning into 3Dfx because at the end they had cards that had to rely on cpu speed and they didnt have T&L which gave them so bad performance that and they kept delaying cards to the point the competition had already got new stuff out.
Whats with the multi die graphics cards anyway all we need is a really powerful card not a last years just redone oh look last years wasnt performing so good ah lets just plug a few together = 3dfx.

i think its a wise decision on ATi part to take the time an re-evaluate , also will give them an idea what they r dealing with when nvidia releases its 9 series .............. although i am not too sure about AMD itself , cause they have drowned them selves in the phenom phenomenon ......... i still cannot understand which idiots were incharge of this project, that they had no sense of competition at all. the only way they will keep afloat for another year is if they fix the phenoms errata and keep them low in price (very low) , that will give budget pc builders and nice option for good cheap gaming rigs or just mainstream users .........

but heres hopin for ATi ................ because without them ( even all the nvidia fanboys ) have to agree nvidia will rape us if they become a monopoly ........ and its a fact looking at their track record ( good products but EVIL ppl making them ).

amd is screwed. the only thing they have to run off of is the 3870x2, for a whole year, whereas nvidia will be releasing the 9x series very soon. the cpu side has already gone under, phenoms were a big flop, and the stuff that actually worked(barcelonas), is nowhere to be found. did i read correctly that r700 is dx11 and for the next windows os

Barcelona's have been available since forever on NewEgg. :p [link]

The long wait for a new graphics family will also give AMD more time to ensure that they're putting out a high-quality product that will dominate the market.
 Eh, that's what they did last time... and it didn't work out too well for them. Stop sugar-coatin' it!

Yeah, I'd say this is a pretty good decision. Hopefully they develop their R700 well during this ''extra'' time, otherwise they'll surely fall into Oblivion if they fail another (and probably for the last) time. Not sure if they'd go bankrupt or anything, just that... it could be quite a blow if the R700 failed.

Who knows if ATI will victoriously rise to the top, but I fear for the worst.

AMD has recently stated that the perception of them releasing the r700 in 2009 is wrong, the r700 will be out in 2008,and for those that dont know the nvidia counterpart will/should be debuting in march of 2008. It is supposedly twice as fast as what their dual release card of next year is.

Who cares, they will have a new part out in 2009. It wont be a death knell. Im so tired of reading this dribble about the downfall of "man" (AMD in this case) ZOMGRZ, ATI DOESNT HAVE THE BADAXX GPU!!! THEY SUCK!! whatever.
