Following VVIKOO's 1GB offering, Micro-Star International (MSI) has now announced its very own NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT Series GPU (NX8800GT) with 1GB of GDDR3 memory. The new video card offers double the amount of memory of a regular 8800 GT and features non-reference cooling solution that is very similar if not identical to that of the 8800 GTS 512. No word on card release date and pricing.

Well it didn't take long. Said coule weeks back in another thread that 8800GTS owners upgrading their cooling will not have trouble selling their orginal coolers to 8800GT owners. After this card I see very little point in buying a 8800GTS (512MB), if this is cheaper.

Wonder if this has a 3-phase voltage system like some 8800GT and 8800GTS?

Yeah... it was only a matter of time... would like to see some benchies tho as how much performance gain can be had by an extra 512mb of ram? Does anyone remember when biostar releaset that 7600GS and then the 8600GT with the application that let you set GPU voltages from windows? People were getting like 900+MHz out of the 8600 with that... Anyways they need to do what with the 8800GT.

But they wont....that will take the GT too close to GTS territory.

well, to be honest, if you can find a way to abuse the UK>US rates at the moment, go and do it! I'm ordering a G92 8800GTS for what is effectively £160, with my friend bringing it back for me..

Yup, I agree, 256bit will not make the best use of it, there will be bottlenecking, be interesting to see how much they charge over the 512MB version.

You can get the Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GT Golden Sample 1024MB for £220 here in the UK, the Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GT 512MB is £180, so a £40 difference, GT prices are still a bit to high over here but they are starting to drop a little.

Judging by the 1gb Gainward model on Scan at the moment the difference in price is somewhere in the region of £40 - 50.

Gainward 1gb Bliss 8800GT:
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=728464

£223 + Shipping

Gainward 512mb Bliss 8800GT:

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=691916

£178 + Shipping

The price for the 1gb model is ridiculous, I only paid £10 more for a GTX.

Thats crap, you can get a GTS for cheaper, need to wait for the prices to settle first before it's worth considering these at UK prices IMO.

just as a referance...

you can get the 'old' version of the GTS cheap but the new ones are still like 240pounds roughly add or take a few pounds

Well I dont know where you are shopping but I have the MSI OC edition that stocks at 730mhz on the core and I paid £212, in my decision to buy this card I dismissed 3 other 8800GTS 512MB's that were priced £210 - £217 :p

There are quite a few stock clocked 8800GTS cards for around the £210-220 mark on most of the major retailers (scan, ocuk, Dabs etc). The overclocked models from the likes of BFG, EVGA etc are up around the £230 mark.

im not talking about the older versions of the card. I know their going stupidly cheap in some places

what I am talking about:

the XFX 8800GTS Alpha Dog Edition (128SP) being 240. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=719623

well it was 240 last week when i last checked the price. now its 220

1 GB using 256-bit bus width at least looks a lot more efficient than 1GB 512-bit DDR4

I guess this would be the card that stays for a long time. Two of these would be all you'd need in the upper-mid range. NVidia lives upto its Awesome Power+Price promise yet again. I'm dying to see the benches.

I'm sure they'll roll out a 1 GB variant of 8800 GTS (G92) too. Look at this GPU, it spans thru three memory categories, 256M, 512M, 1G

Whoa... 1 GB at 256 using GDDR3 is MORE efficient than 1 GB using 512bit GDDR4? what do you mean by efficient? Less overkill, more bang for buck? Because performance-wise a 256 bit bus will be somewhat saturated at 1 Gig - just like the 8600 GTS with 512 mb and a 128-bit bus... This card would be substantially faster at high-res with 1gb of 512-bit GDDR4.

When are they gonna make a 8800GX2 with 1 gig?
