They may have found updates for all the motherboards... but some of the updates predated the Phenom release, and had nothing to do with the Phenom. Does that really count?

On another note, looks like us AMD FANATICS can no longer claim same chipsets for different procs. They are following Intel.

If you have a mobo that is compatible it is not a bad deal for $200, a couple of reviews say the ht speed makes little difference on this processor. The problem is that not many mobo's are going to work with the cpu, meaning you need to buy a new $100-$270 motherboard. At the price point of $300-$470+ it is more worth it to buy a q6600.

The Phenom is not really that bad, just not that great.

you answered my question. unless you already own a mobo that is compatable with the phenom, i dont see a reason in buying one.

They just were not updates that enabled Phenom support. Part of this is AMD's fault and part of it is the Motherboard manufacturer's fault. It is pretty widely known that AMD has gotten down right bad about putting out Engineering Samples for companies to use, and with the L3 erreta it makes the motherboard manufacturers jobs even harder.

When I said, "if you actually read the article", I was referring to the actual article written on Tom's Hardware. Tom's HArdware clearly states for each mobo tested whether it had an updated BIOS that added Phenom support.

If you actually read the article, you'll see that of the eight that did not work with Phenom, seven did not have updated BIOS and the one that did was a pre-production motherboard.

All I'm saying, is that it's not necessarily AMD's fault that the Phenom's don't work in all AM2 boards. Mobo manfacturers need to step up and update their boards BIOS.

I think the article is purposely done. Why can't they just take mobos that officially support Phenom and see how it does.

All the boards used could actually support it if the damn manufacturers would write a simple bios. I will never buy another EVGA motherboard because of their terrible support of these boards. I blame this one the motherboards, not AMD.

PS: Tom's Hardware is one of the most biased sites on the planet and should hardly be trusted.

Hmmm... maybe AMD should have made the new CPU require a new socket altogether. Instead they try to please their current users and end up getting shot anyway. AMD did their part in making the new CPUs fit in the AM2 socket. They should not be blamed for the lack of bios updates on the various motherboards. But all the attacks and negative comments on AMD is really getting old. I come to these forums looking for constructive feedback, personal experiences from people that own the product, and updates on the issues. Instead, the forum is full of negative comments about how the company sucks and is going down the toilet.

I suppose everybody bashing AMD also happen to be HUGE New England Patriot fans this year?

AMD should have kept their traps shut and let the mfg build new boards based on am2 like Intel did with 775. I did not bitch when my old 775 was not compatible I simply got a new board. Thinking back now that sucked.
Hopefully AMD will dig themselves out of this crap soon enough as hardware buyers we need the competition to keep this hobby affordable.

Its not kicking the dog while its down though I hope they get it togethere soon its to everyone advantage. Am I still a Moron? Clearly they can't get their quad core to work,

Hahaha..... Why run Phenom X4 on AM2 Mobo? Just make the CPU run 1/2 performance if its run at all... Use AM2+ Mobo with AMD 770, 790X, 790FX Chipset if u want to run Phenom X4....

Not everyone can afford to just up and buy a new motherboard...

Find me a board on this planet that will fit in my Lanbox Lite case and I'll not even buy it...cos I only bought this TF7025-M2 a little over a month ago when AMD was claiming backwards compatibility of AM2+ CPUs in AM2 boards and I'm not terribly fussed on getting rid of this HyperX either; we can't all change board CPU AND case just for a new CPU
