Everex Unveils the 9-inch CloudBook Ultra-Mobile PC at CES

Everex, a world leader in the design and production of personal computers, today launched their much anticipated Ultra-Mobile PC featuring the latest Open Source operating system from gOS. Measuring 9" in length and 2 pounds in weight, the Everex CloudBook caters to users seeking the latest in mobile computing. With its 1.2GHz VIA C7-M ULV mobile processor, the laptop averages 5 hours of battery life on a 4-cell, lithium-ion battery. Unlike many of its competitors, the CloudBook also features 30GB of internal storage, digital video output (DVI-I), 4-in-1 card reader and 1.3MP webcam.

With its size, specification and energy efficient design, customers will now find the performance and features of much larger laptops in one of the most mobile computer designs on the market. "The overwhelming success of our gPC desktop generated countless inquires from customers seeking additional Open Source mobile platforms," states John Lin, general manager of Everex. I agree with [I.R.A]_FBi. Either they announce the price at sub $400 levels, or they are doomed to be stuck in a niche market.

Accroding to their web sight (everex) its a 7 inch screen and walmart will start selling them for 399 1/25/2008.

Actually, the 30GB hard drive might lower the production costs... since it is NOT a flash drive. I think the flash hard drive is more attractive in these smaller laptops. If they add a flash drive and keep the price low, I would be interested. :toast:

VIA chipset so yup, more than likely a hardware driven wireless card als so it wont need drivers so xp will run great on it.

1./ Never heard of them before. Hardly world leaders in production.

2./ Their products look like plastic bricks. Not aweful, but certainly cheap looking. Hardly world leaders in design.

Don't underestimate Via. I used a C3 based system to build a carPC several years back, and the little chip does it's job like a champ. On paper, the cloudbook is superior to the eeePC in more ways than one. Now that they announced the price ($400), I'm considering getting one. After the launch if reviews are friendly, I may grab one myself.

The only things I don't really like about this laptop is the screen being over to the left (camera on the right) and also the stupid placement of the 'micro trackpad' (top right with mouse buttons on the top left).
