A Pennsylvanian company called Copper Innovations Group has filed a lawsuit against Sony and Nintendo for the wireless technology used in their PS3 and Wii consoles respectively. The firm is arguing that the controllers infringe on a "Hand Held Computer Input Apparatus and Method" patent filed in 1996, which covers a method for connecting devices to a system and sorting their inputs by means of hardware identification numbers tied to each transmission. The devices in question are the Wii Remote, the Wii Nunchuk, the Sixaxis controller and the Blu-ray Remote. Copper Innovations is seeking damages plus interest, legal fees and an injunction prohibiting Sony and Nintendo from infringing on the patent.

Gotta love all the companies with really vague and obvious patents that wait 'til after a product has been out for awhile to sue.

This is why the patent office needs more funding...

Meh, I'd wager the patent office just got around to sifting through his pile of paperwork. Don't underestimate the snail's pace the U.S. government ACTUALLY works at. It's amazing...:banghead::banghead:

And, I only support X box!!! I can't wait to see if they really have a case or not. Then if they do... All ways thought that the sixaxis was a bad build from the get go

The sixaxis is revolutionary and bad ass. Its awesome and a hell of alot lighter than Xbox 360s wireless controller. Internal rechargeable battery, beats the 360s batteries (and rechargeable battery back, which costs extra!!!) Though I admit, I like both controllers and the 360 is uber comfortable. Anywho.

I'm with you wareagle that the sixaxis is revolutionary, but i feel it should of been an add on feature. sorta how the rumble pack was at the beginning. I know, you can change the controls to make it to where its not on, but if its made for the controller it should be used..
I think it was a mistake only because most people are just now starting out gaming because of all these new systems... IMO

What's revolutionary about it? Sony tacked motion sensing on at the last minute once they found out about the Wiimote (they copied nintendo -what's revolutionary about that?). Besides, show me one PS3 game that actually benefits from the Sixaxis motion - I've yet to play one.

I should patent an idea that covers "Sueing another company based on some vague description of an item that they waited until it became big before sueing". I'd be rich.

Lair, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance

Anyway, I don't see how they're targeting the ps3. It uses Bluetooth. Why aren't they suing every company that uses Bluetooth?

No comment on the Wii, as I don't know what methods they use for their wireless.

Lair got AWEFUL ratings because it forced you to use imprecise motion sensing garbage. IGN gave that game like a 4.2

The motion sensing in resistance was just stupid because it only pulled up menus and maps. Pretty annoying.

Never played ratched. I'm sorry, but I'm still not convinced that Sixaxis is revolutionary - maybe for Playstation controllers - but not for controllers in general. And PS3 has made even worse use of motion sensing than the Wii has.

I've played ratchet and resistance and yea it doesnt use motion sensing well. and when it does it feels like such a gimmick.

That's what I think lets down half of the games on the Wii. Developers feel compelled to use something just because its there, resulting in rubbish controls in half of the games.

The Sixaxis is not revolutionary, as the MS Sidewinder Freestyle pro had that motion sensing ability way before Sony and Nintendo ever thought about it.

I don't understand why Lair got such awful ratings. The sixaxis control on it isn't nearly as imprecise as it was made out to be. It just has a steep learning curve. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature.

And the sixaxis in Resistance and R&C is a little on the gimmicky side.

The thing Lair should have done, which I'm assuming it didn't, is the same thing as Warhawk. Lair should have had an option to turn sixaxis on and off (no matter how good it worked).

I have played lair, and the dragon felt like a x-wing for some reason.

I say Mr. Copper is gonna win a warm pile of shit.
