NVIDIA 7800GS AGP pictures

The 7800GS, an AGP part, will officially be launched on February 7th, but it seems like BFG could not hold on any longer and some cards have made it to retail. The NVIDIA forum has a post about the card, with a few pictures. The GPU is running at 400Mhz, the memory at 1250MHz and comes with one DVI and one VGA connector. The chap bought his card for $349.99.

I think the cost of a cheap PCI-E mobo and a PCI-E video card would be a better deal than that.

I think its good for AGP loyalists. However, there arent many AGP loyalists left...I suppose PCIe really is that much better. I dont need 7800GS, once ASRock dualSATA2 motherboard is going, I'll be saving for a $200 X850

I wonder why they moved everything so far up on the card...I'd imagine this card has to use a PCI-e to AGP bridge...could that be it?

Socket A would be too CPU limited to run this card. You can grab a pci-e mobo and a sempron 64 for ~100 now, and a $200 PCI-E 6800GS could probably match a 7800GT on a socket A system.

Though, does this card use the 7800 pcb or 6800?

that's entirely up to you.
if your happy with your current card, then no.
but if you want more performance and willing to pay the price, then yes.

not everyone can afford a new motherboard and new cpu or new memory that comes with making the transition to PCI-E.
some people, like me, would prefer to get an AGP card, even if it costs a bit more than its PCI-E counterpart and performs less well than to get a complete new system.

Why would you have to buy a new CPU and RAM if you try to get a PCI-E motherboard. I know maybe some CPU's motherboards do not have PCI-E, but I believe all Athlon64s do have PCI-E supported motherboards. And RAM you def. dont have to get since they dont currently support DDR2. You could easily get a PCI-E board for under $100 (usually round $80). Then you would at least save $50 on a better GPU (like the 7800GT compared to the 7800GS). I mean if you have $350 to spend on a 7800GS then you might as well get the 7800GT and a new motherboard (would cost maybe $20 more only if you dont search for the lowest price). I just cant find anyway to justify why someone would spend this on a inferior card. Just a waste

what we need to see is a bench of an XP barton with one of these things on.. these are the dudes who would have at least to buy mobo and cpu..

thow as u say tis a lot of money.. u could buy a sempron.. mobo.. and equivalent pcie card for nearly the same money..

i wouldnt say 7800 points in 3dmark05 is bad 915p chipset and a stock 3.2E and a bfg tech 7800 GTX 256 mb 460/1300 clocks same video card on my athlon 64 3800+ venice it scores around 8200 points .

no no no the 915 chipset is alot better the Abit ic-7 g max 3 was the best overclocking agpx8 socket 478 pentium 4 motherboard and my albatron p4c overclocks better.
