In just a few hours, the administrators of the infamous Pirate Bay could be convicted of several counts of aiding/facilitating copyright infringement. The country of Sweden, after spending over two years collecting evidence, finally made a case against the five Pirate Bay administrators. However, Pirate Bay aficionados will be proud to hear that, even if the administrators go to prison, the site itself is here to stay. "In case we lose the pending trial (yeah right) there will still not be any changes to the site. The Pirate Bay will keep operating just as always. We've been here for years and we will be here for many more."

The reason behind this is simple. The Pirate Bay servers are not located in Sweden. In fact, the Pirate Bay administrators themselves do not know where the servers are (and perhaps that's for the better). Wherever they are, you can rest assured that the site is on several servers across several countries, and none of them are going down for a long time.

Nor do I. But if you ever download bit torrents a lot of it comes from seeds on Pirate Bay.

I would never risk going to jail so some guy can download an unwatchable bootleg of Cloverfield. It was hard enough to watch in the theater.

i hate TPB for torrents BUT i honestly hope they win, i hate to see sites that have a perpous and acctualy are usefull at some point go down.........

I have a feeling that if they are convicted there will be some political repercoutions in sweden, not from outside but from all the little pirats that live there, hell there is a good chance that the judge himself is a pirat(cant remmber the numbers but a large percent of the sweedish population are pirats)

we shal see, i really think this whole case is just because the RIAA/MPAA put enought presure on their payed publik officials in the states that they put presure on sweeden to do something about all the $ that the riaa/mpaa think they are loosing.

what the mpaa/riaa dont seem to get is that if they didnt download it they still wouldnt buy it because they arent willing to pay those crazy prices for a peice of plastic........

oh gawd, cam's most of the time suck so bad........saw a cam of doom........it was watchable till u got to the dark scenes.......then u couldnt see shit LOL(a buddy burned it as a dvd.....)

and i really dought they will endup in jail/prison for 2 years even if convicted, it would more likely endup they go to jail then backto court and get let out due to internal presure from all the pirats of sweeden.

Maybe the shakiness of a bootleg of Cloverfield and the natural shakiness of the movie itself will balance itself out and produce a movie I can actually watch!

Hey, Cloverfield wasn't that bad. :p I saw it in theaters -- not bad.

You know, that makes me think -- I haven't bought a CD in years, and I've never purchased a DVD, yet I like paying money for live shows and I love going to movie theaters.

You listening, MPAA/RIAA? Get the drift?

Irrespective of if you like using TPB or not, the repurcusions of their site going down would be huge on the pirate scene. Although from reading the news post it would seem that they are fine for the moment!

Well, we all know how cheap DVD-R and CD-R media is... yet they still charge $15-$25 for a music CD or DVD movie. Maybe if they dropped the price a bit then their sales might pick up. Then again, I think MP3's might actually be more popular then the old CD audio. :ohwell:

As for me... I rarely buy a music CD or a movie on DVD... I finally figured out it was a waste of my good money. I would buy a DVD... take it home and watch it... then put it on the shelf with the other movies, and there it would sit, and sit, and sit. It is actually cheaper and more enjoyable to go to the movies and watch it once for $7. As for the music... it must be an age thing, because I do have any desire to spend my money on any current musician... but, I managed to buy over 300 audio cassettes during my teens and early 20's. Those are pretty much worthless now.

a pirate is a villainous cutthroat and murderous thief.. it wasnt accidentally dumped on filer sharers.. its called demonizing or trying to make a minor crime into a major one in the eyes of joe public..

it aint theft either but they claim it is..

not really, if you know where to look you can get what you want with little risk of it not being what your looking for, biggist problem is that the best site to do that went down *crys*:cry::cry::cry:

i also get ALTO of anime(i have over 300gb worth around here of fansubs) and that is honestly easyist using torrents, if you use other methods it takes alot more downloading then just queing up a batch torrent and walking away, or queing up a bunch of seprate torrents and walking away, if ur connection drops you dont gotta start over, torrents auto recover and start where they leave off :)

I don't care if TPB goes down or not as I don't use torrents.
I do, however, feel that the torrent type of protocols should be legal, as it has many legitimate uses.
One should not throw out the baby with the bathwater.

The guys at TPB flaunt their percieved immunity. that is not a wise thing to do.
They would be better off working with those in power to come to a reasonable compromise, than to try to stick it in their face. I do not think TPB will win this one.

The jail time is irrelevant. The courts could assess fines that would bankrupt their entire operations if it so desires. Even TPB needs cash to exist.

duno about that one, just because they are the heads of TPB dosnt mean fines given to them would translate to TPB, im not sure how the law there works but here if you start a corp and its not 100% owned by you they cant normaly take the assets of the corp to pay off your own debt, and sames true if the corp where sued or went under, they cant go after individules for the debt of the company that nolonger is valid.

we will see, wel will see, i have a feeling this will all endup as a giant mess eather way, if they win (tpb) then the law will go after them again with another charge, if they loose there will be bad things like riots in sweeden, eather way it will all endup as just another mess we get to watch from our computer chairs :)

So you would pay 500USD to go to a show to make up the cost for everyone downloading everything for free?

*sigh* first demonoid & now TPB :( - I'm probably classed as a fairly heavy user of TPB. I quite like the system they got there as you are able to comment the torrents - a feature that not every torrent site has.

I do agree with the idea they shouldnt have been so fast to flaunt their 'immunity' & stuck it to the man but if the RIAA & MPAA really make a move then it could be disastrous for they site owners as well as vistors to the site.

but last time they were threated they claimed that if they did get shutdown that they would move their operations elsewhere where their actions wouldn't be deemed as 'criminal'

TBP wont give up without a fight no matter how much the RIAA & the MPAA push the subject.

you can buy out politicians & billionaires but you cant buy out pirates.......YarrrrrrrrrrH

the true cost cost of piracy.. what is it.. windows just has to be the most pirated thing on the planet.. Microsoft the apparent victims still seems to be one of the richest organizations on the planet..

as for music if the only way it could be listened to was pay thru the nose there would be no music industry.. somehow i cant help but feel whats now called piracy but has always been done in one form or another and the making of money go hand in hand..

there would not be one without the other..

YARGH, There be booty for the takin' :D

I really do nope they win, I am no fan of the RIAA and the MPAA because of thier heavy handed tactics. I don't believe people should steal others' property, but the answer is not lawsuits, it is to come up with business model that works for everyone involved.

Just my 2 cents

No one can convince me pirating software or music is a bad thing, look at the afore mentioned M$, and look at all the celebrities who produce the music we download, look at the actors who make the movies we download...they're not hurting one bit. Piracy is just an aspect of life. In the 90s before PCs were in every single home, there were tons of people who just didn't want to spend money on music, those same people got it for free over the radio. In our generation now, there is still that same batch of people who have no desire to spend money and if they managed to stop piracy, we'd just go back to radio. As for software, I don't download any. I got a copy of Vista from a friend to try it, and had it been to my liking I would have gone out and legally purchased it. There are worse and more important things in the world than piracy, go cure AIDS first then come back and bother us for $0.99 MP3s.
