Vista Registry Hack Forces Auto-Download of SP1

For any of you hoping to get Windows Vista SP1 RTM code before it's officially ready, I suggest you head over to the source link for a detailed registry hack. Basically, this hack is a clever use of Microsoft's own code. At the run of a CMD file that was present in the latest beta version of Vista SP1, any version of Windows Vista will phone home and download whatever SP1 files it can find. Luckily for the adventurous, Microsoft will not be trying to shoot this hack down. In fact, they're happy that this time around, the hacking is completely legal, and safe. Safe, that is, until the upgrade is complete, after which you still are dealing with unfinished code.

wow.. this is just like how you can buy vista upgrade... and do a fresh install with it.. you just install vista and its like oops, no installation to upgrade, and then you go through the installation a 2nd time.. and it upgrades your first vista installation :laugh:

just curious if vista sp1 arrives on feb18th as the news above this one on the home page says so, will the sp1 upgrade be available when i check for windows updates? would it be an option cause i heard that you have to buy it separately or something. could somebody inform me

They hack didn't even work for me.

I had to torrent it to install it and I still get an Error message with the install.

Thats probably why the delay... What good does it do you, if some people can't even install it?

You mean after useing the reg hacking thing?

I used it and it said to check windows update for it, but for some reason it wasn't there? I assume after useing the hack its suppost to show there, but for me it just wasn't there. Fortunately my PC still works, so it wasn't a bad reg hack that could mess up your computer, if you try it let me know if it works for you.

You know something's wrong with an OS when people are actually hacking the software to get an update to fix the OS.

Well that 4MB patch was to allow for the download of SP1.

I can now download it, and its only 1 MB lol.

You have to DL like two other windows updates to get to the real SP1 download option, but it does work. I'm actually noticing faster file transfers now too.
