Paramount Moves to Blu-ray

Given that Toshiba has now officially discontinued its HD DVD business, this news acts merely as an extra nail in the format's coffin. Paramount has become the last of the big six Hollywood studios to decide upon Blu-ray, saying:

We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer," the statement reads. "As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly.

Universal, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Studios and Warner have already made the switch to Blu-ray, which looks almost certain to become the dominant high definition format for the next few years.

I believe it took longer because Paramount was paid to come to HD-DVD, and then signed a contract with them. I think there were some issues with that contract.

with no alternate competition to Blu-ray now, all of the studios have switched over by default, I would be surprised if any of these studios even produces another HD-dvd disk from the existing batch.

Well many people thought that Toshbia wasn't going to let Paramount out of their contract, forcing them to be a company not releasing any HD content for a year.

Kind of sad, but we all knew this was gonna happen. Hopefully, prices will now drop even more. Im not so much concerned with the players (Would be nice to have Receivers with HDMI interfaces with input and output to hdmi) but Id like the software (movie titles, etc) to drop from like 30 bucks to like 18 bucks or so.

Time will tell. I'd love to see $18 BR movies as well but I don't think it is going to happen anytime soon.

Although Microsoft does indeed have competition. And consumers always have the option to boycott an OS as many did with Vista (not me though I love Vista). There is Linux and Mac OSX out there. And frankly Microsoft would really have some competition with Apple if Apple were to simply allow People to use the Mac OS on their PCs rather than be forced to buy Mac computers.

Lol man, you want something for nothing. Get over it...Sony will continue to price their products competitively and as time goes by the prices will continue to drop as they already are.

The only reason you guys got HD-DVD players for 100$ is because Toshiba knew their product was dieing and decided to push it out to anyone who would buy it, despite that their customer was going to have a dead product.
