Sony No Longer Selling Backwards Compatible PS3s

Well, really, the title says it all. Sony is no longer offering any version of the PlayStation3 console that can actually play games that were released for the previous two Playstation consoles. At this time, the only PlayStation3 model available in stores is the 40GB model, which is not backwards compatible with anything. However, the future is not bleak in Playstation-land. Sony has long been planning a successor, which more than likely will have a larger hard drive and one or two other surprises/goodies. Unfortunately, backwards compatibility will not be among those goodies. If you're into playing PlayStation classics on next-generation hardware, you'd best get yourself an 80GB PS3 before stock completely runs out.

Yes. I believe PS1 games are still able to be played the same as always. The ones you download off the PS Store will run on your PS3 or a PSP, so I think they must have the software emulation of PS1 pretty much under control.

Kind of sucks, but Im fortunate, I got the 60GB model that has PS2 compatibility. Im not worried about the heat, as my nyko cooler keeps it nice and cool. Also, I can upgrade my HDD to any sata 2.5" hdd, so Im good to go on that front.

and how many of you really do play old games? i picked up an old game and tried to play it on the PS2 a while ago. it took me 8 minutes to stop, not because of the gameplay, or the controls, or the story. it was the graphics. when you play a new (well back then it was) then switch to an old one you see how far graphics have come.

epic fail, i dont even like the pos1/2/3 and i think this is one of the biggist dumbshit moves they could have ever made......jesus they are morons.......

im sticking to pc, where backword compatablity isnt normaly an issue, hell i can even play ancient dos games on here.

if i want i can play old ps1,nex,neogeo,turbo gfx16, mastersystem, genesis,satern,atari and pretty much anything else u can think of, oh yeah and amega and old apple games as well(use to have an emulater and like 40 apple and amega games!!)

oh and b4 some nub says something like "what about high def gaming" guess what, i been "high def gaming" since oh, around the time dx8 and 9 where out, 720p=1280x720, since my 17in monotor i havent gone below 1280x1024, thats HIGHER res then 720p, since my 9800/x800 cards i havent droped below that EVER, my x800 spent most of its life at 1600x1200, my 1900 same deal, and my 8800gt.....you guessed it!!!

i play old games. i like old games. my housemate (The Girl) plays old games - shit, she still plays harvest moon. she can go from crysis to harvest moon without a single complaint about the graphics.

True, but games really only boast graphics these days, concept and gameplay are a distant second or third. Which leaves the consoles nothing to offer except modern eye candy with the convenience of a console.
