Valve Considers Music and Video Content on Steam

After making record sales for the holiday season last year, Valve Software may now add music and video downloads to its digital distribution platform Steam. According to the company's marketing VP Doug Lombardi the new service will be operational before the end of this year.

We're also looking at other types of content like video and music,

We're definitely having those conversations and meetings, and we're reaching out to folks with other types of digital entertainment. I think before the end of the year, you'll probably see some pilot programs with other digital entertainment on Steam.

that would be great if they did add real movies in the steam line up and not just 2 minute long trailers for games, lets just hope they chose only good movies.

Wouldnt music and video degrade service/performance to us regular gamers?

Sure, Steam is one of the worlds finest content delivery systems, but its core purpose is for games...

Sure, Steam is one of the worlds finest content delivery systems, but its core purpose is for games...

i don;t belive it will because you would download the movie from the steam servers and watch it when it done downloading, just like if you brought a game from steam. you don;t have to let steam connect to the internet to play the games, and in this case, movies onc eyou brought them from steam as well.

direct2drive was also once a gaming platform. now you can download movies, tv shows, anime, and comics from direct2drive as well. the way i see it its about time steam started doing this.

as long as the stuff i download from there isnt plastered with DRM then i think its a good thing, hopefully rivalling itunes and such services. :toast:
