ECS Unveils G10IL Netbook - ASUS Eee PC's Next Competitor

Previewed during the latest Mobile World Congress, Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) has spilled new details on their ASUS Eee PC competitor, the G10IL. Based on the Intel Atom (Diamondville) microprocessor and Intel 945 GSE + ICH7M core-logic, the G10IL will be offered with glossy 8.2-inch or 10.2-inch display, up to 2GB of memory, optional solid-state drive and preinstalled Windows XP or Linux OS. ECS G10IL will be the first ultra-portable laptop to be available, with new models set to follow soon. Multimedia and network features include built-in 1.3MP webcam, tri-band HSDPA and HSUPA connectivity, three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet networking, a 56Kb/s analog modem, WLAN and Bluetooth, and a 4-in-one card reader. "In response to the demanding requirements of notebook offering advantages unattainable by others, Elitegroup Computer Systems today unveiled Simply Smart ECS G10IL notebooks where we made a giant stride possessing the power and features that is undoubtedly a winner in its class for today's sophisticated customers," a statement by ECS reads. The release date and pricing of the first ECS G10IL are still unknown.

Looks nice, but its ECS!

ECS is crap, they used to make laptops called GQ (stands for great quality...my ass). The GQ had nothing but problems. The frame starts cracking on it own from normal use, the fan stops working in a few months. The D/C jack de-soldiers itself. The mobo goes defective with in 2-3 years.

And I know about this. I work at Fry's (#1 seller of ecs crap) in service dept, and deal with these things every day.

So I do bet there is gonna be no difference with this new laptop.

i had no idea ECS made GQ.... i bought their blank cd's once, never again will i do that, i ended up with half of them being coasters. but otherwise, iv'e never had a problem with their socket 478 motherboards when i was building cheap computers with leftover parts i have lying around.

a friend of mine had capacitors leak on his ECS board, it made his CPU run at a nice idle of 90C.

we burned that mobo. then hit it with a hammer.

I've never really had a bad experience with GQ labeled CDs/DVDs but I know ECS mobos are complete crap. I hope this laptop fares better than most of ECS's stuff...

ECS's quality began to fall when they amalgamated with PC Chips but over the recent years they have regained some of that build quality back.

It's not only ECS. I've had Abit and Gigabyte mobos with leaking capacitors. More companies now use solid capacitors rather than electrolytic ones
