OpenOffice Version 2.4 Released

The OpenOffice.org Community has released version 2.4 of its leading open source office productivity suite OpenOffice. OpenOffice.org 2.4 is available for immediate download and the new features are described in the release notes. OpenOffice 2.4 is compatible with all Microsoft Windows, Apple MacOS and Unix/Linux distributions.

It was already up for download on thursday. Installed it and found out it has no language packs available yet, got to uninstall and download 2.3 instead.

As soon as OpenOffice is TRUELY better than MS Office 2000, and is COMPATIBLE with Office 2000 files formats, I'll switch. But last time I tried (2.0) it was woefully aweful. But I am a power user rather than casual "bit of this and bit of that" home user. So it's probably OK for most peeps. But I'm still waiting.

Wholeheartedly agree. I find that it's getting there but not quite yet. I have yet to try some 'old' MS files on the new version though, so you never know....

I preffer abiword(word processor) and Gnumeric(spreadsheet) instead. I feel oo is bloated.
