I think that people trash vista who haven't used it because one thing:

Editors.

They don't like vista, and they rate it low. People believe everything they read on the internet. So, without trying Vista, they'll just be like "Vista sucks"

I read reviews on Vista through CNET, and they seem very biased on things. And CNET is popular, so alot of people will catch those.

I've had that happen here at school. People who don't use Vista will tell me (the schools have the Vista Capable stickers) that Vista is terrible. I ask them if they ever used it. They say No, I read about it.

Have vista. Memory hog. Hate gaming with it. Annoying UAC (which is disabled). Driver incompatibility rivalling the XP fiasco. Program incompatibilities. Have Vista. Used it for 9 months. Not an editor. Computer Tech Consultant. Hate it. :pimp:

I was hoping XP would become obsolete, and pulled off the shelves, and no more updates.

I prefer Vista over XP, and I want the schools to upgrade, cause XP drives me mad.
Perhaps MS should have thought of the impact thier changes made to the business comunities software. Vista is still not certified for a ton of applications or web apps for that matter.

I have used Vista (multiple versions) and work on computers with Vista. Honestly I can't validate the improvements for the performance hits.

This is great for xp users but one thing all these threads do is bring the nah nah xp/vista is better crowd to the surface and is about as productive as a fart in an elevator.

I always thought farts in an elevator were productive, they're not?

i honestly can tell you i use both atm vista on my main computer and xp on my laptop
they both have there pros and cons but i don't know why people dog on vista so much?
it was the same way going from 98 to xp or 2000 to xp?
i guess i like it because if you have a system that will run vista, then it runs great!
when i first built my computer i had XP on but moved to vista shortly afterwords imo vista runs just as fast if not faster in some areas than xp
and of course it takes a better system but thats because its newer!!!
and im guessing as soon as windows 7 comes out everyone will hate it 2 :ohwell:
thats just my 2 cents

but seriously XP is a great os and im glad to hear the news...

Let's face it, Windows XP is the most successful Microsoft product ever. 8 years since release people still sign petitions to keep it alive and several other factors are pushing MS to extend its life. So, since it's continuing to sell XP for ULPC's the rest of us will have updates till at least 2010.

Dang... that's slow. Why not upgrade to a slightly more modern PC?

My main rig kicked the bucket

You are wrong. I've used vista home premium and I hated it.

I was referring to a friend..sorry I wasn't clear enough

Have vista. Memory hog. Hate gaming with it. Annoying UAC (which is disabled). Driver incompatibility rivalling the XP fiasco. Program incompatibilities. Have Vista. Used it for 9 months. Not an editor. Computer Tech Consultant. Hate it. :pimp:

I don't have memory issues, on 1GB. Games run a little slower for me, but I'm fine with it, yeah, UAC SUCKS!, There are some driver issues, but I'm used to them (installing the PCI to PCI-Bridge) every 4 times it's started.

i honestly can tell you i use both atm vista on my main computer and xp on my laptop

My laptop has XP, and my main rig has Vista. I get so used to vista, and now I go back to XP.. there's a big difference. I take back my first post,, I hope xp dies or whatever. They're both good OS's..but I prefer Vista.

Vista properly customized, and I don't even mean major customizations, is a fairly nice and even responsive OS.

XP is fairly solid, definitely more solid than vista and supports more hardware and software simply because of it's age...

However there is a far better version of Windows than either of them. "XP Pro X64" (NT5.2). It's based off Server 2k3 (NT 5.2) and it's native X64. I use it on everything, it's both faster and more stable than either XP (NT 5.1) or Vista (NT 6).

Now that is true! Unfortunately there are a few applications and games that still don't like it.

Errors can happen. Not everything is fail safe. XP BSOD'd 4 times on one system that I built 4 years ago. It is running fine. It hasn't BSOD'd once since I installed it.

Your rig will run Vista no problems! why not upgrade to vista?

No, I'm not a MS salesperson either.

Few reasons:

1. The audio architecture - lack of audio hardware acceleration without the use of 3rd party APIs - also, as we've just recently learned over the last week, Creative has been disabling features with Vista drivers; asides from, even with stable drivers, there are a lot of audio issues regardless of your audio card manufacturer (sorry, but being an audiophile, this is a big issue for me).

2. The gaming performance hit - big gamer here too; granted I might be stouting a quad and 2 crossfired 1950 PROs, I'm not willing to take a gaming performance hit simply because of the OS design.

3. Overall, I still find Vista to be way too buggy, based upon MS' "statements" (i.e. delaying SP1 because of big name manufacturers that still couldn't get their software to run stable with the new RC, and then MS going and releasing SP1 anyways), and helping my father fix issues on his system (he's running Vista).

I'll be honest and say that I do see that the OS has a lot of potential, but I'd like to see it come a ways further before I even consider it. I'd love to see MS redesign the audio stack, but I don't think that will happen with this OS.

Only Home edition, not Pro. XP Home sucks.

do you actully know the diffrences between the 2 at the core?

Pro supports up to 4 processors per licesne while Home Supports 1 per licesnse, this does not include cores per Processors both support unlimited cores per physical package

Pro supports advanced networking features it can host more than 10 network computers, home can only network 10 computers together max, what home honestly has more than 10 computers in active use all the time?

Pro supports remote desktop, home does not support control of it but does of giving it.

these are the diffrances, do these matter to 90% of the home users?

learn before you bash

agreed i get alot of crap from XP installs. I've had memory dumps, boot sector intization erros, heck i had krnl32 crash during installs. Funny thig is once it finally installs or i pop linux live in and do a smart check or run mem test i get no errors, its windows doing it.

I use more than 10 computer at my home. And I use remote desktop quite a bit.

And even when I didn't use to have 10 pcs Home always gave me wierd issues with anything network related.

You shouldn't assume before you bash.

i also dual booted with XP/Vista ULT for a while and tbh i wasnt impressed with Vista ,admittedly it does have some nice features but imo the cons far outweigh the pros..

im a gamer,i play a "lot of games" and tbh in probably 90% of recent games i got a performance drop using Vista. Why does anyone thinks its perfectly acceptable to spend #100s on better and faster PC components only to have Vista slow it down again?

Some games were roughly about the same performance on both XP/Vista but i want all games to be around the same ,i dont think thats unreasonable tbh.

While u probably think i hate Vista ,i dont ,as i said it does have a lot of good features and i love the Aero :) ,but until or IF its performance for Gaming is equal to XP ill pass for the moment.Maybe in another 6-12 months itll be as good or even better as XP is now for heavy gamers, then i may switch.

I use more than 10 computer at my home. And I use remote desktop quite a bit.

And even when I didn't use to have 10 pcs Home always gave me wierd issues with anything network related.

You shouldn't assume before you bash.

I stated the diffrences, if your using home for a network server your not doing it right.
