Lenovo Quietly Axes Last 4:3 Ratio ThinkPad T Series

Electronista writes that Lenovo has decided to cease production of the 4:3 screen ratio Thinkpad T61, withdrawing units from stores. Lenovo now offers all its mid-size notebooks, including the 3000 and IdeaPad series, only in a widescreen ratio. The change represents the end to one of the last clear holdouts from IBM's notebook offerings, which used the taller but narrower screen ratio for virtually all its ThinkPad notebooks until the brand name was handed over to Lenovo in 2005. The X61 tablet and its conventional alternative are currently the only Lenovo notebooks to still depend on a standard ratio screen and may be replaced in the future by the X200 series as part of the China-based company's move to capitalize on the success of the X300.

Is this an admission that Levono has lost a lot of market share in the business sector? Businesses dont care for widescreen. The opposite in fact... taller... the better... for email boxes and reading PDFs and using word and excel etc.

Or is it an admission that business users are just spending all their time watching movies these days?

Probably a mix of all of that lemon. Also, part of the reason for the suspension/debarrment of IBM earlier this month was due to products not meeting EPA standards. Makes you wonder what could be in those screens...

the same if they cram a larger number of pixels into the same size display, which is usually the case.

Widescreen's smaller than 21" suck. The height on them is just attrocious for anything other than games and movies. I suppose in laptop form a wider screen is easier to carry though.

I'm disappointed. I really like 4:3 laptops, the feel much more compact; I hate these huge laptops that seem so popular. They're so much more cumbersome, since I like to take my laptop many places, this isn't desired. I thought I could count on Lenovo to keep supplying laptops with this ratio.

it would actually look like this. Because to match the body to the screen theyd then have to decrease the size of the keyboard widthwise, which they cant do since there isnt enough space for the internal components within the laptop to be actually able decrease the dimensions of the body.
but anyway...
