What?? I thought these new eeepcs had the same old 900mhz Celeron ULV?

And is it just me, or is the eeepc now uninteresting considering the $500+ price tag? The $300 decent laptop is what I think made this series and this is killing it... Boo having windows preinstalled, and what happened to the option of 4GB SSD drive and 512mb RAM (although I dig the newer resolution)?

Man, I wish they'd produce more black ones.

Should be around 400 EUR if Asus keeps their pricing system.
Hope we'll soon see a version with Atom CPUs :)

it's still all about the size and relation to price; yes it's all very well having newer more expensive parts, but what about those who seek the $300 tag? :(

Newegg is also selling these now, $550 for both configs.

$550 is quite a bit of money, even if they are small.

Software Windows Server 2003 R2 as a Workstation now migrated to W10 with regrets.
The new specs mean that it is perfect as a corporate email tool. Previous spec didnt cut the mustard, so it was only a "student's" laptop.

Credit to ASUS for making the device attractive in a new market segment. But as other posters noted, keep a cut down version available for those on a low budget.

Also for the 2009 version, bring a Hi-Def screen even if only 10". We want 1280x1024 (or higher) married with larger 120DPI fonts, for better readability.

Why 5:4?

Either 16:10 16:9 or 4:3. But spare me with 5:4

There's a 16:10?

Since when did it have the 1.7 GHz CPU? Sounds wrong to me.
They should have tried to keep the price at AU$499 or lower, like the old one!

For $550, I'd much, much rather get one of these: HP 2133. 1280 X 768 screen, all-aluminum case -- much nicer if you ask me.

Yeah. 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1200, and 2560x1600 are all 16:10.

VIA cpu's are crap. I have played with a m-itx C7 that was clocked at 2ghz, and it was pathetic. Then I tried out a m-itx Intel Celeron 220 (1.2ghz) and it was twice as fast, and cost 70% less. HP should have used the celeron. They would have gotten better performance, and cost much less.

VIA CPUs are much more power efficient, however.

If you want to try a really slow x86 CPU, try one from Transmeta.
