HP today announced that the award-winning HP Blackbird 002 will be available in an exclusive configuration at Amazon.com, Newegg.com and select Best Buy, Circuit City, J&R and Micro Center retail stores and online shops this summer.

This is the first time HP Blackbird 002 will be available in retail stores, making it more accessible to consumers and allowing them the chance to experience it up close and personal. The retail configuration will include the cutting-edge design and performance elements that set this machine apart from other desktop PCs in its class. The retail displays will include video demonstrations of the system and offer live game play.

Since its introduction, the HP Blackbird 002 with Voodoo DNA has attracted accolades for features including the ability to handle extreme computing challenges, from next-generation games to demanding professional applications, as well as its isolated thermal chambers, tool-free accessibility, and cable-free hard drive installation. Recognized for its ground-breaking design, the HP Blackbird 002's attention-getting shape combines a stylish sensibility and cool practicality.

"While Blackbird has been well-received online, we know there is a large segment of consumers who crave a hands-on experience before making a purchase decision," said Mike Perkins, vice president and general manager, Voodoo Business Unit, HP. "We are introducing the HP Blackbird 002 to a new audience and anticipate a fantastic response to this one-of-a-kind fragging machine."

The HP Blackbird 002's exclusive retail configuration is priced at $3,299, and includes:
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q9450
  • Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition with
  • Service Pack 1

I was reading the HP Blackbird page, and they no longer use a nvidia boards for both crossfire and sli. They have to separate boards now:

Motherboards

* EVGA 780i
* Asus Maximus Formula X38

What a bummer, I guess the older striker extreme with the 680i chipset is to old for them.

Good thing it has a "900 watt power plant" :laugh:

As a side thought, why are the warranties on these expensive computers so terribly crappy? 1 Year? Give me a break.

You're not artsy fartsy, though :p

These blackbirds actually do look pretty sweet. I wouldn't mind one if someone gave it to me. No way I'd pay for one, though :D

Building is way fun. But for those who dont know how and want a good system then i guess this is good. But the only thing is, you can get the same parts for cheaper and you know what is and what isn't in your PC(software or hardware wise).

They are actually damn good comps and are pretty amazingly fast. Maximum PC did a review a couple of issues ago and it slam danced its Zero Point system which has either a q600 slacr or q6700. The price is too high, but the build quality is awesome.

Yea, the did their review on the older 680i board, which was the one with the ability to do sli and crossfire on a nvidia chipset. This ability is what made the blackbird popular in the first place. Now they dont do that. :shadedshu

You get a better value if you build computers yourself but the whole point of buying pre-made computers is mainly convenience but also because you have the money to burn. It's the same reason why people buy Alienware computers even though they're priced hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars above the actual market value of the individual parts put together.

In any case, I love the way the case looks. If only I could just buy that case by itself...

its not for "money to burn" folks. Most of you can throw together a comp just like others get dressed every morning.
But you are the minority, 95% of comp users have no clue the difference between an IDE and a Sata cable.
For them a good working comp with all the bugs worked out is definately worth the cash.

Thats why I bought a low end alienware back in 03 and rebuilt it the next year. Still cost too much but I still use the case as my (home) server case.

Nice specs for someone that just wants to open the box and pawn most people. Is the warranty good if its overclocked : )
