GeForce 9800 GT: Sales Begin, No Announcements yet.

Chinese website Zol.com.cn reports that in China, stocks of the GeForce 9800 GT card can be purchased from a local production company, a product which hasn't even been announced yet. The 9800 GT differs from 8800 GT in having a 55nm fabbed core that should allow higher parameters, though iroically being identical to its predecessor, the 8800 GT (600/1500/1800 MHz).

We could expect an official announcement soon, and this card could well be priced between US $120 and $140.

Nvidia need to get their naming act together....calling an 8800GT a 9800GT purely because they shrunk the die?

Look at the difference between the 2600xt and the 3650 by ATi. Same exact performance.... actually the 2600xt was better half the time. Companies break there naming schemes for marketing reasons. Numbering them is marketing anyway.

Hahah, that's true. Neither side is perfect when it comes to that.

That isn't the stock cooler, it's made by XFX.

XFX also put that cooler on latter versions of their 256 & 512 MB 8800gt.

He's right. However, I remember that AMD was having the 3650 replace the 2600pro and that they were going to have a 3670 replace the 2600xt, but it never materialized. Speaking of which, whatever happened to the 3850 w/128bit memory bus (HD 3690 I think it was going to be called)?

It was never on the slides so that never got produced. The 3470 and 3450 were kind of pointless. They already had the 2400 pro and 2400xt(limited production).

This 9800gt is going to be an OC favorite I am sure. For the budget gamer, of course.

It was available from OEM's for about a month now. I am glad it reached the retail circuit finally.

I like that cooler at first glance it looks like something that belongs on a HTPC card but underneath is a piece of copper thats heavy enough to hurl at your sibling.

It is, I've seen the reference designed in person in a Blackbird 002. The reference design has two SLI fingers for 3-way SLI. The one in the picture is just a rebranded 8800GT.

They used it on the 8800GS also, and some of their 9600GT's. It is a pretty standard design from them, and works pretty well if the fan wasn't junk on it. Though it looks like the fan has been updated on this card.

Lower nm makes a big difference if you OC, or if you want to have a card that uses less power.

The XFX in the picture is just a rebrand, that is XFX's problem, but the true 9800GT is not a rebrand.

I saw the card last week in a Gateway FX system that was returned at Fry's. Unfortunately I did not get to try it.

It really was a 9800GT I even opened the case to verify since I had never seen one.

Gateway’s FX series (FX4710) is for gaming. It is powered by an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 processor, up to 6GB of RAM and an over-clocked NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT graphic card.

that's what i expect , just old times when 8800gt with g92 is come , and now i think best chose with nvidia card is 2* 9800gt sli, and i think it is like 9800gx2

It won't scale the same because of the distance between the GPU's and the SLI chip.
